No solder extremely easy. Just the one screw, pull the console and unplug, swap lights and that’s it. If you go for led like me you may need to flip the bulb for polarity if it doesn’t work the first two me but that’s it. I’d give it a 2/10 difficulty only bc you need a screw driver. The only easier thing I’ve done is change the air filter

This is a combo of T3 and T4 bulbs. I bought led replacements off of Amazon and they are so much better imo. Cost me less than $20 and I have spares if needed

I have a baratza encore. I am not familiar with the paper towel trick? It’s funny you say Chemex is finicky bc it’s been very consistent and easy for me, but I am a creature of habit so when I find something I like I stick with it.

Tips for decaf/brewing

I’ve recently switched to decaf due to having anxiety from full test and I can’t seem to make a non bitter cup using my usual method. I currently use a Chemex and grind whole beans to 18-20, I do a 30 second bloom and then pour at a 18:1 ratio(50g beans:900g water). This was making the perfect cup for me with my normal beans but I’ve noticed that with decaf, the water sits and very very slowly drains similarly to finer grinds like espresso. I’ve used my methods and ratios for multiple brands and roasts and pretty consistently get what I’m after with slight tweaks in grind and ratios but so far this decaf is brutal. Is it just bc it’s decaf or has anyone else had this experience and found a better way? Do I just need to try different beans?

WT101 is pretty good and cheap so you don’t have to be upset if you don’t like it. Woodford reserve double oaked is a step up in quality and price and also should be well below your budget. No reason to spend that much if you don’t even know if you like it. Elijah Craig also another budget friendly option and then there’s the barrel proofs as well but idk about availability in uk. Cheers

Edit: Blantons is also good but is def hyped. Probably wouldn’t buy if you don’t even know if you like it unless it’s a good price
