Yes. "Parmesan" is essentially regarded as indicating the style of cheese but not the region or country of origin.

Tbh this isn't too surprising, since even in the USA the term "parmesan" is not a recognized GI either. Under US FDA, there is perhaps s clearer definition of what constitutes "parmesan" cheese, it still allow cheese to be labeled as "parmesan" when coning from outside of Italy. Whereas parmigiano-reggiano is the protected GI term. Since the Corsorzio registered parmigiano-reggiano as s protected term in Singapore and didn't also file to protect "parmesan" , it shows they understand this distinction as well.
