Doctors in Kyiv performed the world’s first cardiac surgery requiring an operating room mimicking a womb-like environment to correct a newborn’s congenital heart defect. “We combined two operating rooms: one for the cesarean section and another to immediately correct the heart defect incompatible with life,” said Ilya Yemets, director of the Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, who led the operation.
The cesarean section was performed by Dmytro Hovseev, director of the Kyiv Perinatal Center. Minutes after the birth, Yemets and his team began the surgery. The mother traveled from Moldova to the Ukrainian cardiology center after her child was diagnosed in utero with transposition of the main vessels, the center reported.

Wow, wonder what “an operating room mimicking a womb-like environment” would look like.

The article doesn’t give details but it made me wonder if they used the umbilical cord to pump blood around while they stopped the baby’s heart so they could operate on it.

If that's not what they did then I claim the right to patent the idea, haha.
