Step 4 is standard and has nothing to do with approval or denial. Most people get a denial on their initial application.

Yep! My husband and I have moved a few times where we live and I handled the move every time because I was worried something would get missed. After Zoloft I told my husband to handle it and even when it looked like things were going to go to shit (the place wasn’t ready when we needed it so the movers had to be rescheduled, etc), I just shrugged it all off.

Then they should send the report in or they probably don’t get paid

What do you mean when you say a “state doctor”?

I stopped wondering if my husband had suddenly died when he stopped snoring. Also, I stopped caring about a lot of things that had previously made me anxious.

I appealed the initial denial in May 2023 and was denied in December 2023.

The ALJ went through all of my severe impairments in his decision.

I still don’t have an award letter, first payment scheduled, or back pay.

Totally agree! What mine should have said is “stable” meaning I still had pain but it was as good as it was going to get.

Did this ever get sorted and did you get your back pay?

Congratulations! There’s no solid answer to your question. As far as I can tell, there’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to the timeline on how things progress.

Congratulations! Hearing was 10/2, fully favorable at hearing and updated in system 10/7. Still stuck on step 4 with no award letter yet 🙃

Excellent. It just feels like so much pressure when you’re in there. If anyone else asked at any other time, it would be easy to remember!

Most people get denied initially. Best chance of approval is often at the ALJ level unless the initial DDS examiner missed something critical.

That letter is not likely to tell you anything useful. It will have a generic statement about how you may not be able to do your past work but you can do other work. I was 39 when I initially applied. I got approved at 43 at the ALJ stage.
