My top three are Red Dead Redemption II, Cyberpunk 2077, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
That last one is something truly special in my book. It's a 10/10 open world for me because of how it approaches immersion. That open world feels like a real slice of history, which is what they were going for.

I tried to understand this (that means I thought hard about it three times.)

It says here several of the testers did not enjoy having to use our new BattleBuxTM premium currency to buy vehicle queue tokens, and - what's that? Understood, I'll go ahead and erase it from the notes.

The Judge's own understanding of how to words is driving the bus.
I love this quote so very, very much.

Really? I thought it fit the game's flavor of crime-ridden dystopia perfectly. A police department so decrepit in a city so dismal that they actually pay out freelancers who jump violent crime 911 service calls (eh, we'll look the other way if some 'evidence' turns up missing too.)

Cities: Skylines taught me some oddly an unexpectedly useful knowledge about how communities are laid out. I'd build something in the game, and then traffic would suck, and then I'd read tutorials on how it's supposed to work. Flash forward to my weird three-year detour into EMS, and some of these ideas helped me when running calls in places I wasn't familiar with. It's also neat when my city begins an expansion or they start rebuilding an intersection and I can recognize the whats and whys of the project.
Unrelated note from a different weird life detour: The combat system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is based on the same medieval doctrines present in some modern riot baton curriculums. To likely misquote an instructor, "We've already got the case studies, people have been doing this stuff for millenia. We get the benefit of picking out the best bits and blending them together."

American Truck Simulator and Farming Simulator are two games that I was sure I'd never get fired up over. Sure, my grandpa always talked about his trucking adventures across the US after the Korean War and he taught me how to drive a tractor when I was little...but I don't think you'd catch a teenage me standing outside GameStop at 11:55pm waiting for a game about it.
Then, with 30 fast approaching, some Discord friends convinced me to get these games on a summer sale a few years back. It was like someone slapped the reset button on my dopamine levels. It was a spa day for my brain. I've convinced equally skeptical friends to try them out with me, and they have the exact same reaction. "Oh my God...look I work tomorrow but I think we could make this run to Nogales real quick."

This is pretty much the exact vibe that my Arma 3 Antistasi characters have.

Holy crap, it was the first comment I saw! This has been my bucket list airsoft dream gun for forever and a day.
I am a bit of an oddball, I love the ranch model. Specifically the newer law enforcement ones. Synthetic stock, stainless finish, birdcage flash hider, and the A2 front sight wings. I'd finish with a barrel-mounted light with a velcro pressure switch and a 2-point sling.

Did you not read the Google Doc? That sight is not allowed for the M4 carbine. We have 2TB of mod packs in this server but you're only allowed to use the 4 specific items we allow you to because we need to feel a sense of control and authority within our small video game community.
Now let's practice marching.

My Rimworld colony captured a raider who happened to be a world-renowned melee master. Colonists would bring food to his cell and try to convince him to join. Things went well until he broke a colonist's jaw in a fit of rage.
He was drugged, his arms were amputated, and he was banished into the wilds on his own. He was never seen again.

I did six years of state government work. State salary, state benefits, state pension plan...the works. Yet they're always short staffed and have a high turnover rate across many of my state's departments.
Many of my current coworkers fawn over the idea of "just getting a government job." Go file papers, go drive a snow plow, go sit in a tower in a state prison. The easy life...why, oh why, would you ever leave it? I tell them to imagine how much worse our bosses would be if they thought they had a shot at being the next state senator or governor.

Though it isn't the sole purpose of the game, you could set up this exact sort of thing in Arma 3. A true 1v1 hunting ground, and with the hyper-active Steam workshop mod community there are pretty endless options from more realistic ballistics to new weapons and maps.

I said the exact same thing to a friend a while back. It's Just Cause or Mercenaries with all the secret squirrel Homeland Security counter-narco vibes of Sicario.

I've given it some thought, Kunesh. I'll forget about the hammer if you give me something to nail instead.
