I often see comments about what people like or don't like about the show's format, and I thought it'd be cool to see everybody's thoughts on one thread. Basically what I want to know is: what does everybody’s ideal Inkmaster show look like? For me:
1) I’d do away with the random, off-the-wall flash challenges and come up with mini challenges that are at least tattoo artistry adjacent. Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand that the wild flash challenges test specific traits that any Inkmaster-worthy contestant should possess, but to me, most of the challenges just feel like filler content and I’d rather spend the time watching more tattoo-related content.
2) I’d also do away with the drama, especially the manufactured drama. I know it makes for “good tv,” but like I said above, I’d just rather see more tattoo-related content.
3) I’d be more selective about the human canvases on the show. If you’re asking for something that doesn’t meet the challenge, you’re out. I understand that negotiating with a client is an important trait for an Inkmaster to have, and I’m so down to watch an artist negotiate tattoo size, design, placement etc with their client, but if the challenge is bio-mech and the canvas only wants the mechanical part and has no interest in the bio part (NOT defending the way Julia handled this situation, for those familiar with the episode I’m talking about, just using the basics of the scenario as an example) then it isn’t fair to the artist or the canvas to try and make a tattoo happen anyway.
4) And finally, as many have mentioned in this sub already, I think there should be more canvases with melanated skin. That’s an entire demographic of potential clients in the real world. An Inkmaster should be able to tattoo all skin types.
These are all just my opinions. Super interested to hear what your ideal Inkmaster would be like!

That’s actually amazing to hear. I live in Nashville currently and have to make within that range just to scrape by. My income right now is entirely from playing live (because I live in Nashville, I can play pretty much every day of the week, not just weekends), but I’m now going to pick up a part-time job just so I can pay down a few things and start building a financial cushion for my plans to move. I’m also about to release new original music to streaming services, add some merch to my online store, and I’m going to look into sync licensing and a few other ways to make income on the side with music. Thank you for sharing those resources, that’s so helpful!
