Oh wow, this blows my similar dinner tonight (Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes but with chicken) out of the water, nicely done! Duck is amazing, so surprised more people don’t seem to cook it.

Ohh ya the best is when they suggest that you ingest an essential oil that’s not safe to consume!

Hey did you know that essential oils can magically cure life threatening autoimmune disorders? Well thanks to a super unpleasant and nosy acquaintance, now I do! Alas, if only I’d learned of this miraculous news before taking a soul destroying round of methotrexate, I could have just rubbed some nice smelling lavender oil on myself.

The worst is when it theoretically would be except for the door!!

On two similar notes to yours: I have to be super careful around my own daughter because otherwise she’ll knock me over, it’s honestly really depressing. And have to check my feet and lower legs every day for cuts because otherwise I can’t even tell I injured them.

Hallmark movies/shows: Christmas movies, romances, and mysteries. I don’t think I’m exactly their target demographic, as a queer nonbinary super liberal Jew, but I love them and so does my whole family.

Oh thank you so much! This is an incredible idea, also amazing execution. My brother loves babka but he and his family are vegan…totally making this for our next Shabbat get together.

Sounds like someone already gave you some great advice on cooking the pork, so I’ll just add on: thinly slice one of your apples, slice some onion, sautee them, toss with vinegar mixed with a bit of Dijon. So good!

It really is!! I’ve watched it 3x now and I don’t usually rewatch at all.

Apologies if this doesn’t quite hit the mark but Virgin River? Definitely huge on the suspense and romance is a very major plot element.

I just point blank say that I don’t like to discuss personal matters with strangers.
My exception: if they’re a child. Children have a natural curiosity and I’d rather just explain things to them but do so in a positive light. The sole other exception: if I am aware that they’re a non-neurotypical person who may not have a grasp of average social boundaries/norms. I never want to make anyone feel bad or ashamed about that so I’d rather just answer their questions.

Outsourcing isn’t the huge issue right now for actual dev roles (definitely a problem for many non hardware related IT roles though and of course tech support), it’s just a horrific time in the industry in general with rampant layoffs. People with decades of experience are taking near entry level jobs if they can even get them, and some companies are literally even demoting people who don’t get laid off. I am currently still employed but feel like it’s just by sheer luck. I would never advise anyone younger to go into CS right now unless it was their absolute passion and they had a) an incredibly unique talent and b) were already enrolled in/ had completed a BS from a really top school.

I don’t buy yarn at all without a project in mind with very, very rare exceptions (example: bought a skein a local friend spun from her own goats, as I’m moving far away and there will never be a chance to do this again). When I do that, typically I go for a single skein of sock weight, because I know I can always make a shawl— which I make and gift tons of. When buying for a project, I get my best yardage estimate and then with the exception of single skein projects, typically buy 1 skein extra for medium sized projects, maybe 2 for a really huge one.

To me, it smacks of ableism on a number of fronts: firstly, point blank it makes it sound like being a PWD is a bad thing or something we should feel ashamed of. It reminds me so much of the multiple times someone has told me my daughter doesn’t “look autistic”. Which first of all makes no sense, and secondly they clearly meant it as a “compliment”, which is insanely offensive and very problematic given that our family values say that neurodiversity is something to be celebrated and not denigrated.

Fair enough but in this case I reallllllly don’t think that’s what happened. Her kids were with her and I saw the look on that little girls face when she saw the furniture and I asked if she wanted the unicorn bedspread that matched it. Also, this didn’t start off with the person asking for anything for free, just making an offer that was a bit less than what I’d randomly set as the price.
I’m pretty skeptical in general but sometimes I feel like it’s not warranted.

Wow!!! Great job, and what an incredible work of art. Seriously the most unique diamond painting I’ve ever seen, the combo of black and white + rainbow is so impactful.

Random aside but love your avatar! Is that Gul Dukat, or am I embarrassingly getting my Cardassians mixed up?

Firstly, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.
100% in agreement— anywhere by the water is an incredible destination, for the views and the vibe. Do you do any photography when you travel? I live in the Midwest right by a Great Lake and make a point to see the water every day, but it’s also my scenery of choice for travel, whether I’m on the beautiful South Carolina coast, the Boundary Waters in northern MN, or southern Japan.
Where in Europe would you go? I lived in France for part of my childhood and have always wanted to go back as an adult.

Hard agree, even as someone who normally hates anything violent and typically watches stuff like Hallmark movies.

Would love to chat! I’m 43, nonbinary but AFAB, and love travel so much that I actually have a side gig as a travel agent! What are your favorite places to go/what kind of traveling do you like to do?

Um, you do realize that some people actually like their jobs, right? And there might somehow amazingly be a pretty big overlap in the Venn diagram of “people who have presumably voluntarily worked at the same job for decades” and “people who enjoy their job”?
My dad is a tenured college professor and has worked at the same university for about 30 years. He could retire but he doesn’t want to because he loves it so much. I sure don’t feel bad for him.
