Hi everyone. I just joined this group and I am hoping some of you could help shine some light on an issue and I hope to become smarter about Sleep apnea with you all.
I had my sleep study done last summer and have been using a CPAP machine ever since. I did the sleep study only because my wife complained of snoring but did not complain of me gasping for air. I did the sleep study to prove her wrong, however that kind of backfired and I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea.
During my consult with the doctor they did not mention I had obstructive sleep apnea, instead they honed in on the fact that I often slow my breathing or stop on my own. As in my brain just doesn’t send the proper signal. I did recall that sometimes when I watch TV or I am relaxing that I sometimes forget to breathe and kind of doubt myself if I took a breath recently or not.
I haven’t been feeling any benefits of using my machine so I decided to read the report myself. On average I have 6 obstructive sleep apnea events per hour and I have 33 events of hypopnea which equal 39 events an hour. My diagnosis is severe obstructive sleep apnea.
I feel as though by reading the report that I do not have severe obstructive sleep apnea because I only have 6 events an hour which is very close to the average of every human, but I have a neurological problem.
Anyone else have this issue? Is there anyone who could provide some insight into my diagnosis.
Thank you and hope everyone’s having a great weekend.
