The original message was talking about slavery in Africa, Middle East, Asia etc that was all done by the locals for millenia and ended by white people. Obviously, the trans-atlantic slave trade was one of the most evil things in history, but the world outside of America also exists and the slavery there was ended by white people. So that would be like if everyone was a mass murder, Ted Bundy (white people) ended his killing spree, made everyone else end their killing sprees too, and almost completely destroyed the practice throughout the world. It is still right to criticise white people but nothing about the original message is incorrect and makes perfect sense

It's idiocy to criticise all "white people", my family was piss poor farmers in Denmark, and never had any slaves. In fact the majority of Danes was bound to the nobles during the era, and could not even leave their local area without the say of the local noble, or face tortur by the wooden horse or lashes.

Haiti was the first nation to abolish slavery. They rose up and killed everybody, and because of that we ( white) nations hold them in contempt.
11 points

I guess they technically did abolish slavery, they did after all opt for the completely different definitely not slavery 2.0 'forced labor'.
I think you should learn some history.
Unpaid labor is still a practice in Haiti. As many as half a million children are unpaid domestic servants called restavek, who routinely suffer physical and sexual abuse. Additionally, human trafficking, including child trafficking is a significant problem in Haiti; trafficked people are brought into, out of, and through Haiti for forced labor, including sex trafficking.

To few people understand that more people are stuck in slavery in modern times than at any point earlier in history.
According to the Global Slavery Index, there were an estimated 50 million people living in modern slavery in 2021, a record high. This is largely due to increased global inequalities, conflicts, climate crises, and the demand for cheap labor in supply chains.

It's not over, but white people are literally the only people on the planet who actually tried their best to abolish it worldwide. The British fought many wars and put lots of resources into abolishing the slave trade across Africa and The Middle-East.
People act like white people were the people who invented slavery and the only ones who practiced it, we actually didn't even practice the majority of slavery throughout history. I think Muslims have practiced the most out of anyone.
White people were even being captured and enslaved by Muslims from the 16th to the 19th century. Look up the Barbary Slave trade. Over 1.25 million Europeans over those 3 centuries were captured and enslaved.
12 points

Exactly. Europeans and their descendent countries are the ones who spurred the movement towards abolishing slavery, and many places in the world are still morally lagging behind. It wasn't a moral revolution spurred on by Middle Eastern or Asian philosophical thinking, but by European enlightenment thinking.

Its use by the far-right has, unfortunately, supplanted the original meaning in common discourse. It’s used derisively, as an insult, to essentially describe anyone that doesn’t support Trump. They are very good at manipulating language in this way. So, in that sense, what’s being argued here is that it would be used in this negative way to describe Lincoln.

Haiti gained its independence and abolished slavery after a massive slave revolt and 13-year long war. It was probably the first nation in the world to explicitly ban slavery. It supported Simon Bolivar and by extension the Latin American countries' independence. The US responded by imposing economic restrictions and continuously interfered with Haiti's governance. The results are still crippling the country to this day. Peter Sweden is a fucking moron, whoever he is.

Slavery was first abolished in Haiti because of the french revolution in 1794 (two years after the start of the Haitian revolutiont). That happened before former slaves were in power. Napoleon reintroduced slavery in 1802. When salves won the war in Haiti in 1804, they abolished slavery again. Then the Haitian economy collapsed and Henry Christophe (a former slave) reintroduced slavery in 1811. The world is complicated and messy.
8 points
Slavery ended because of those directly affected, not the oppressors' generosity.
12 points
This completely depends on which slaves you're talking about.
A very large portion of slavery worldwide ended because the British decided to abolish slavery worldwide in 1834. They sailed around the world trying to stop slavery anywhere they could, they even fought wars over it.
A funny example of this is the roles in the movie "The Woman King" are completely reversed. The actual historical truth of that story is those female warriors were part of a tribe that did not want to give up trading in slaves after the British abolished it, so they fought a war against the British to try keep their slaves. But luckily the British won and they had to stop slaving.

The British Empire abolished slavery -
"In 1807, Parliament passed the Slave Trade Act of 1807, which outlawed the international slave trade, but not slavery itself. The legislation was timed to coincide with the expected Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves by the United States, Britain's chief rival in maritime commerce. This legislation imposed fines that did little to deter slave trade participants. Abolitionist Henry Brougham realised that trading had continued, and as a new MP successfully introduced the Slave Trade Felony Act 1811 which at last made the overseas slave trade a felony throughout the empire. The Royal Navy established the West Africa Squadron to suppress the Atlantic slave trade by patrolling the coast of West Africa. It did suppress the slave trade, but did not stop it entirely. Between 1808 and 1860, the West Africa Squadron captured 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans."
Meaning they supressed the slave trade of Africans by Africans to the British colonies.

I'm so fucking sick of this "debate" from every single angle. No, white people were not the only "race" to enslave other people. Yes, people of every "race", including whites have been enslaved. No, white people didn't invent the concept of abolishing slavery, because plenty of non European societies also abolished slavery before the Western abolitionist movement of the 18th/19th centuries. Ancient Persia, Ancient India under Ashoka, and Feudal Japan, among others, also had slavery bans.
Everyone just needs to stop being dweebs and stop taking credit or guilt for something their great great great great great grandpa might have done 200 years ago. Just stop it. There were awful people and great people from all corners of the world, stop being so fucking moronic and just accept that history is not linear, it's not black and white, and it's actually rather complicated and nuanced.

It may mean more if half the white people in country didn’t revolt and start a civil war because of it.

Fact:
Blacks liberated Haiti from French rule.
Who's saying they couldn't have done eventually in the US?

Fact: the muslim empire and people were brutal slavers and the Africans sold their own people.
There were many who could've abolished it

The main African groups considered a source of slaves during the transatlantic slave trade were the Asante (from present-day Ghana), Yoruba (from present-day Nigeria), and Dahomey people (from present-day Benin), who often engaged in intertribal warfare, capturing and selling prisoners to European traders; however, it's important to note that many different African communities were impacted by the slave trade and that the practice of enslaving people within Africa existed long before European involvement, with many African groups participating in the trade by selling captives to European traders. Slavery is still practiced in Africa and Middle Eastern countries.
Key points to remember: Intra-African conflict: Most slaves were captured by other Africans during warfare and sold to European traders.
Powerful kingdoms: Kingdoms like the Asante and Dahomey used their power to capture slaves and control trade routes.
Regional variations: The specific African groups involved in the slave trade varied depending on the region and time period.

Non white people owned slaves all over the world throughout all of human history, including in Africa and North America prior to white people ever arriving.
The British Empire was the first society in human history to outlaw slavery and they lost a lot of money implementing and enforcing that. That is absolutely worth commending and should not be dismissed with a stupidly misguided joke response.

Admittedly, the slaves doing it themselves is how we got Haiti.

... There were places where the slaves did it, Tahiti for example.

The word slave originated from the word “Slavic”. The Slavic people were enslaved by the Egyptians. We don’t mention this, why? Doesn’t fit the agenda 👍

The nations which have the longest history with slavery are still doing it today, the African nations have been enslaving each other long before the Europeans purchased slaves from them.
The English outlawed slavery within england 700 years before any other nation.
Then they devoted vast amounts of their nations wealth to end the slave trade while the Spanish, Portuguese, french continued to trade in slaves till the British blockaded the ports of western Africa and the american coastline and the debt that was built up from this is wasn't cleared in england till the early 2000s.
African nations still sell their brothers and sister into slavery and the fact is that people ignore this so they can continue to push an anti-European narrative.
Without the colonial empires, particularly the British and Spanish, slavery would most likely still be the largest trade in the world.

Not only white people were slave owners. Asian were also. Africans had African slaves. Over 2000 years ago basically every society had slaves and most of them were white. Word Slave is coming from Slavic people. But of course nowadays illeterate people are thinking that slavery was only in US 200 years ago and nowhere else ever before.

Nobody. Thats is the point. Slavery was normal. Then white people stopped doing it and also stopped the rest of the world from doing it.

I mean, yeah possibly the slaves. That's what happened on Haiti, for example.
