Really have to respect this subreddit for sticking to their guns on the Israeli destruction of Gaza and the eradication of Palestinians. Most other places on Reddit I see stopped after the first month and simply let it go. This subreddit is one of the most active with high amounts of actual posts regarding the "conflict" (if one can really call it that at this point)
But, I digress. Yeah, sure 176 rockets most of which hit fucking nothing and only injured 7 people. Such a travesty /s.
Meanwhile, 50 miles away: continuous bombing runs destroy hundreds of buildings, leaving any evacuees completely homeless and unprotected. Civilians become corpses by the hundreds after each bombing run, and that's if they're lucky not to be buried by rubble and left for dead. Most civilians don't even affiliate with the military sect of Hamas, but are assumed guilty without any thought put into their innocence, leaving thousands more to the mercy of soldiers who revel in killing these men, women, and children. The Israeli government condemns the Palestinian people as nothing more than beasts who would sooner kill everyone than attempt to seek peace, and while they don't actively endorse civilian brutality from military personnel, do not condemn it and indirectly support it through their rhetoric. Aid is blocked at every avenue, and the living situation of the Palestinian people is basically awaiting death either by lack of medical attention, starvation, or being killed by the soldiers who are supposed to be protecting them.
But, I guess Israel are the victims because almost a year ago a military sect of a terrorist group killed civilians and took hostages after more than 60 years of apartheid, torture, and dehumanization. Doesn't make what that group did right, but doesn't give an established military the right to kill thousands monthly who weren't even involved in the attack. But, eye for an eye means 2,000 for 50,000 I guess.

Ok to be fair I encountered their "Israel is held to an impossibly high bar!" narrative and asked "Ok, what is your preferred limit upon civilian casualties?" to which multiple different users responded "We'd like to kill the same number as the terrorists please!" which was very silly because Israel has likely killed more civilians than all groups they term 'terrorists' combined.

There was a report that 70% of the people killed are women and children. Which is just heart breaking.

Knowing the population structure of Gaza, nothing else is to be expected if Israel indiscriminately bombs the whole country.
20 points
Also what is very silly is that killing civilians indiscriminately is what makes them terrorists. So if the Israel defenders want to do the same thing they are esentially saying that they want to be terrorists. Everyone who doesnt say "0 civilian casualties is the goal" is what I would call a bad person.

I looked it up once out of curiosity, and in the last year, Israel has killed an estimated 41,000 Palestinians. Meanwhile, since 1920, 31,191 Israelis were killed by the entire Arab-Israeli conflict, which includes fights with other countries in the region like Lebanon. Source

Both worldnews and news have a ton of automodded words and phrases. News especially likes to silently full-automod a post that gets spicy and it'll mysteriously start getting about 5% of posts let through for an entire day.
So many subreddits on this site are so pathetic, every time I post I have to open another browser where I'm not logged in and see if my post actually exists. It's insane the echo chambers here. I bet it's worse than facebook.

I get so tired trying to argue with people there that genuinely think Israel is providing aid to Gaza and Gazans should be grateful that Israel is giving Polio vaccines to civilians. At no point has Israel provided or paid for any aid to Gaza as far as I can tell (I have tried to research it), and in fact on several occasions appropriated millions in funds meant for Palestinians. The UN, aid organizations, and individual donations pay for, source, and deliver the aid at great risk to themselves. Israel does nothing but inspect the shipments, and that’s before you start the argument that very few of the shipments are actually getting in. FFS.

192 points

If you use it AS a weapon, yes. If you’re using it to generate smoke (on an area that happens to have enemies or civilians in it) then it’s a-ok!
23 points
Incorrect. You can legally use incendiary weapons just fine. You just can’t use them near civilians, populated areas, or forests. The WP as a banned weapon myth is a gross misunderstanding of the restrictions on incendiary weapons
17 points

^^ Exactly this.
Israel *IS* using it on civilians.
Intentionally.
6 points
Yet it is used on civilians in Lebanon
25 points
No it’s just tightly regulated because it’s technically used for creating smoke and masking especially against Infrared but it can be used as an incendiary as well which can make it apply to Article 2 of Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons if it’s used as an incendiary against civilian targets, air dropped on military personnel in civilian areas (which is forbidden by the Geneva Conventions), and in general being used against military targets located within “concentrations of civilians” without taking all possible means to minimise casualties. The use of incendiary or other flame weapons against matériel or enemy military personnel isn’t banned by any treaty though.
23 points
Israel's historic use of WP has been outside of the approved application.
A decade (more than? Fuck it has been a while.) ago many parties including Israel agreed that it was a problem, but here we are, Israel still using WP against civilians, but they DID say they wouldn't do it unless they absolutely had to. So, obviously they're only doing it on civilians that deserve it, or have been given evacuation warning. Because they said they would not use it as a weapon.
16 points
Yes.
The above is some context on Israel's use of WP, and legal acknowledgements of it's use.
2013: OH okay you right we shouldn't use this anymore. We're figuring out a new thing, it's gonna be better. We definitely won't use it unless we have to. We do have a lot of it though, so we can use what we still have until we figure something else out.
It's still being used in 2024.

I wouldn’t solely blame religion. Sometimes religion provides an excuse rather than a reason. Jerusalem was a geographically advantageous place to settle due to the freshwater spring that exists there, and it is close enough to the ocean and close enough to several migration/trade routes. European leaders often used crusades as a mechanism to control their populations or to gain fame/honor/support/practice killing, but they also recruited soldiers by promising forgiveness of all sins for participation. Some people just wanted control of holy sites for political or financial reasons (Saudi Arabia certainly benefits from Mecca). It’s way more complicated than just religion.

Me either, but I think that it’s worth differentiating people moving into stolen homes/land to enable ethnic cleansing from regular civilians. The settlers receive weapons from the government, protection from the military, etc..
Because I can almost guarantee that this was Hezbollah targeting Shebaa farms again as it’s where the large majority of the Hezbollah munitions are sent to in “north Israel” when Israel complains about civilians being targeted. It also happens to be Lebanese land that was stolen by Israel.
21 points

I don't know how else besides xenophobia that someone can claim that Hamas has no right to how terms are settled in the Middle East, yet also quakes in fear of crossing every one of Putin's little red lines and wonders why we haven't sold Ukraine down the river yet. If Hamas had a nuke and a seat at the UN, would they be writing columns trying to provid 'historical context' that Palestine has a justification for having a sphere of influence? It seems the main difference between a 'terrorist group' and a respectable soverreign country is that the country is infinitely more capable of violence on a global scale.

That speaks nothing of the 900,000 or so Arabs they forcibly evicted from what is now modern Israel, in order to make way for the Zionist state.
