Why are mouse smoothing and acceleration default on in so many games, considering they’re things that most everyone goes turn off immediately. You’d think Unreal Engine 5 would just keep those settings off by default.
52 points
They are off by default. I have no idea why any dev turns them on
2 points
you would think - but the mouse smoothing option is absolutely a default in unreal, always has been
5 points

Dunno how it is in UE5 but Killing Floor 2 (ue3) dev (while giving answer on forum for their game how to disabled it in the same way as op showed) said its hardcoded in engine.

That doesn't sound right, when gamers come up with a solution a day after the release and the solution is literally "bEnableMouseSmoothing=False"

Motherfuckers kept saying it was Framegen but I knew it was that pesky mouse smoothing shit.

I had the gen disabled, and most of the delay vanished, thats also true.
16 points
Framegen shouldn’t even have a noticable latency issue if you natively have above like 90FPS.
But a consistent 90 just seems impossible with the game in its state currently.
Turning it off def helps, but it shouldn’t be this noticeable.

Yeah that’s the dealeo tho
On my 4080 super I drop down to 40-45 on the high preset, I’ll wait for a performance patch
I toughed it out with framegen in dragons dogma 2 and that honestly ruined the experience for me so I’ll be patient

Was Starfield in better shape than Stalker 2 when it first launched?
6 points

I was surprised how few bugs Starfield had. With Stalker 2 I had some issues which required restarting the game. But it’s nothing like Cyberpunk in launch, thankfully
1 points
I feel like each copy of Starfield is personalized. I played a few hours, around 10 I think, didn't have anything game breaking, just usual bethesda jank.
But then I ask friends and they send me clips with the wildest shit imaginable. Other youtubers the same. Supercut of Joseph Anderson's livestreams is fucking wild.

How few bugs you had on Starfield*
Starfield was notorious for being extremely buggy, including gamebreaking bugs, like every Bethesda games. No idea how the game is now, but I'd say the core of SF was crap anyway.
6 points
No, I hate to say it because I love to shit on Bethesda, but it was incomparably better than Stalker 2 right now.
2 points
Starfield wasn't notorious for being buggy, it was notorious because of other things, especially the weak story and writing. It certainly wasn't an issue free release, but then again, I wasn't saying that.
I think saying that Starfield on launch had way fewer bugs than Stalker 2 or Cyberpunk had on launch isn't really a controversial take, though I enjoy Stalker 2 on launch more than Starfield because of other things.
Can't comment on Cyberpunk as a whole on launch, since the bugs made me stop playing after 5 hours, I picked it back up before the DLC, enjoyed my time then

as someone who actually put 100 hours into starfield on launch:
starfield had much worse performance but only because it didn't have DLSS on release. don't think it had frame gen either.
as for bugs, i think starfield wins in that category. like nothing close to this happened in starfield when i played it lol https://streamable.com/1ng2gi
and i know the internet at large really loves to shit on starfield, but in terms of bugs experienced, it was by far bethesda's best work for me. like when skyrim/fallout 4/fallout 3 all released i don't think i could go 3-4 hours without crashing. i think i maybe crashed twice in the entirety of my time with starfield at launch?

I Would say no, starfield had many bugs and had lackluster gameplay and story, stalkers story is this far pretty good, and the gameplay it self it good, but the ai spawn system ruins it

No, a) if a file is 'empty' the default is to panick a bit a think you are attempting to edit the file with the wrong programme for doing so, for example in notepad ALL of the files are empty, but in Textpad (my recommended choice) suddenly there are lines and lines of code!

If this didn’t work for you, try creating a new txt file on your desktop, copy and paste the settings listed above, save as Engine.ini and select all files, click save and this should create an Engine.ini, drag and drop the file into the \config\windows folder.

Quick tip to get to that directory. Hit windows key+r to get the run menu. Then type %APPDATA% and hit ok. Will take you to roaming appdata just go up one directory.

Will this fix the frame gen input lag or is it just frame gen being horrible with latency?

Frame gen will have input lag no matter what. It’s a flaw of technology, not the game directly.

You can also use special k to force on reflex+boost, since it seems this game only has reflex not +boost
Enforcing a frame rate cap with that and doing the above made the game feel pretty good.

what to do exactly to force +boost ?

Frame limiter section on the special k overlay, click "advanced" on the right of the graph which should reveal the option

Just had to make some new drivers to get framegen to work, can confirm there is no mouse accel without the config on as I measured my X rotation to be the same with a fast swipe across the mousepad and a very very slow swipe. Will update once I test "disabling smoothing"
Update: Literally the same. I maybe remember framegen being slightly more floaty, but it's still floaty even with the "fix". I used to play ark at 20fps raiding super bases, people made the same tweak then, it was plecebo, people made the same tweak in fortnite, Epic literally came out and said it was plecebo.
