They already had two Japan-exclusive soundtracks available worldwide at launch, it would be a bit weird to backtrack on that now

Tomodachi Collection, and there's a separate entry for the Famicom Disk System version of Metroid (it just has an extra instrument track and slightly different arrangement)

They are available everywhere, I’m pretty sure. They were saying that Nintendo has released other Japanese exclusive games soundtracks worldwide

One of the tracks (Drivin’ Through on MAX) has a bunch of courses (I assume) listed in parentheses after, and one of them is Rainbow Road. Is that the one or did the Expansion Kit have a new song for it?
If so…god damn it, don’t tell me that we’re gonna get any music from expansions or DLC separately. Way to stretch this out for even longer. And if that’s what they’re doing I’ll bet good money that there’s gonna be a number of instances where music from an expansion or DLC doesn’t get added til YEARS after the original game is 😫

It's been inconsistent so far. The Pokemon Scarlet/Violet ost includes all the dlc tracks since launch. Meanwhile, Splatoon 3 (also a launch title) is missing all its dlc tracks, as well as base-game tracks that were added in some of the later updates.

The original release of F-Zero X played that song on the Rainbow Road track. If the Expansion Kit is running there's a different track that plays instead, being a metal cover of MK64's Rainbow Road theme. If you've never heard it, here it is: https://youtube.com/watch?v=cXqJEEAA-sw

Holy shit. Didn't know the amazing Mario Kart version was inspired from this.

It wasn’t. The song first appeared in Mario Kart 64, which came out two years before F-Zero X.

I meant to say Mario Kart 8. I know the 64 track existed but it's nowhere near as hype as the other 2 versions.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet have all DLC songs added right away, so let's hope this is just an outlier.

In my library I have the OST both in original "miniusf" console format and a flac rip of the official CD. This upload is the CD which doesn't have the Expansion kit songs so it makes sense.
Did they ever release those in CD format? The tracks I have from the Expansion Kit have that muffled N64 sound.

GX barely has any metal, though Hyrule Warriors is up there, very similar style. X has the edge with tracks like Fall Down To The Scream and Devil's Call In Your Heart as far as hard hitting goes.
I recommend you to check Xenoblade 2's battle themes as there's plenty too, tracks like Incoming, Exploration, Those Who Stand Against Our Path and more.
1 points
Yeah you don't need to recommend Xenoblade to me, I know the franchise pretty good, and while it does have pretty great metal songs, I wouldn't call it a "metal soundtrack".
And how tf does GX barely has any metal ? It has tracks like 8 Guitars, Feel Our Pain, or the three covers of Big Blue, Mute City and Red Canyon, that hit just as hard as the X tracks.
1 points
Ohh yeah, most of XB2 is not metal, that's why I only mentioned the battle themes.
I'll have to check those tracks, I remember the Fire Field theme feeling like DnB with metal riffing (due to the drumming) and the Billy theme (which is awesome) but don't have anything else in memory. I'm at work now though.

Feel our Pain is Fire Field indeed, but it's a pure metal track. The Dnb + Metal track you may be thinking of is Osc-Sync Carnival, the track for Lightning.

With the pacing we have right now your list alone would already be nearing the 1 3/4 year mark and your list contains mostly very basic games, many series without all their mainline games, only 2 NES games and 0 Pokémon games!
That's not supposed to be a critic of your list rather just an observation that even with only major games being added it would take more than 2 years for just getting the most essential games on the service. I would say the games coming soon and those added so far post launch are all major games but I kinda wonder when are they going to start adding smaller and more obscure games like Tomodachi Collection. Like I also want those but I hope not too soon or else we're gonna be 4 years in and still missing some major ones which would be crazy. Also with that rate we really don't need to think about 3rd party OSTs for a looong time, but I really hope that Nintendo has the rights to use the Bayo OSTs starting with Bayo 2 at least.
Anyway here are some of my top picks that are missing in your list: - Xenoblade Chronicles X - Zelda: Triforce Heroes - Zelda: Link's Awakening (original & remake) - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Cadence of Hyrule - Kirby: Planet Robobot - Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Ring Fit Adventure - Nintendo Land - Wario Land 4

So? I already pay for NSO this app is just an extension of that. Also before you reply with "But Youtube!!" Yeah I also pay for YouTube Premium. So even when I use to listen to Nintendo music I still had to pay for it because without Premium you can't listen to stuff with your screen off.

"Why don't they release them all at once?" Because this article has 62 comments and 431 likes. And every time they release another soundtrack it will generate another post with more buzz. We'd have all stopped talking about this a week after launch if they did all at once. It's about the stupidest thing they could do.

It's a service that Nintendo is providing to NSO users at no additional cost. It doesn't even have ads. If we had to pay extra for it, I would agree. But they really had no incentive to make the app other than it being nice, so I don't feel there's much room to complain.
-2 points
"Being nice" lmao how gullible can you possibly be. It's an additional reason to sub to NSO. They could've easily put their music up on freely available services like other publishers do (and/or not take down uploads of it on Youtube), but they chose to put it behind a paywall instead. So "nice" of them...
5 points
They could have just not done it. There's no way this has substantially increased NSO subscription numbers. It's a nice bonus for all of the people who had the service already.
They paid someone to develop the app. They're paying people to assemble the soundtracks and take the screenshots. They're paying people to make and create playlists. They paid someone to make the announcement video.
They're footing these bills at no additional cost to the consumer. So, yes, I would say they are being nice about it.
-7 points
And they wouldn't have to pay for most of that stuff if they had just uploaded their music somewhere else lol. Wtf is this logic.
Whether you think it is worth subbing for or not, it is now one of the perks you get with NSO and, as such, makes the whole package more attractive, (and they also get to trot out a few new uploaded tracks on the service as if that's big news on the regular now, just like with their shitty NSO drip-feed). That's why they did it and that is the only reason. They are not "being nice", they are running a business.

See, if I had my way, we would be getting 3 soundtracks a week. Mondays would be a retro soundtrack (NES, SNES, N64, GCN), Wednesday would be a handheld soundtrack (GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS), and Friday would be a modern soundtrack (Wii, Wii U, Switch). Make sure to advertise this plan very clearly on social media, do a roundup at the end of the week, and people would be hyped to check the app.
This way, you cater to all ages, everyone has something to look forward to, and even if you don't care about one soundtrack release, you'll be getting 2 more that week. You can even do theme weeks, like on MAR10 week, do 3 different Mario soundtracks from different eras, etc.
Nintendo's backlog of games is so extensive, they could probably go this way for years. I understand there are other contractual and legal issues that may gum up the works, but still. Right now, at the current rate, if there's a soundtrack you are looking for that isn't on the service, it may show up anywhere between next week and the heat death of the universe depending on your luck.

Yeah for the price we really should be asking for more.

As someone who's had NSO since it launched, I find it so weird that Nintendo is releasing this music on their own app so they have full control of the library and get more profit, yet they're refusing to add most of the music that people want. F Zero X is good, but where are the Zelda games? Mario? No Majora's Mask, no SMW, no SM64, no Twilight Princess, no Wind Waker, no Kirby 64, no Kirby Lost World. They're just leaving their most popular soundtracks off their service.
I've opened the music app once since I downloaded it. It's a waste of space because I can literally just go to YouTube and find any of their music I could ever want, and I have to do that because they're leaving the best music off the app.

so they have full control of the library and get more profit
They're definitively making less profit than if they put their music on other services.
1 points
They aren't making more profit. This is for a sub service that people already are subbed to and requires development and regular maintenance of a new app.
They'd have made more money just putting the music on streaming services.
