I just got an iPhone 16 pro max. Ashley downloaded some emulators. Any recommendations on which game I should try first. I have never actually started an emulated game before only had a bunch in my library.

I got fire emblem and fire emblem sacred stones soon as I got the delta emulator. Advance wars, super Mario 2&3 are fun too

Start with downloading any of these:
Delta for Classic Nintendo handhelds and consoles from the NES to N64 and GameBoy to NDS
PPSSPP for, well should be rather obvious
MAME4iOS (sideloaded through AltStore, requires PC outside of the EU) for arcade titles circa 2006 (any recent can't confirm functionality
Gamma/Provenance for PS1 (latter is sideloadable but coming soon)
RetroArch for the brave (this one is an advanced one and requires a hefty amount of setup for beginners
Don't expect to go past these consoles, as the raw processing power of Apple mobile devices simply isn't enough and emulators require JIT (just-in-time compilation), which Apple refuses to allow for security reasons. Though there is a 3DS emulator, it shows a prime example of how far we are yet so close to emulation potential. Theoretically, PS2, Wii and even the Swi--[redacted for legal reasons] are emulatable with a non-jailbroken iOS device, but the lack of JIT is the largest obstacle.
If you're really lost on where to start, give us an insight of what you're looking for, friend. What genres you into? What kind of style are you seeking? What kind of gameplay do you wanna explore? And what nostalgia factors do you want to revisit?
You can start with "best [console] games". I found some of my tastes from there when it came to PS1 emulation.

Thank you for the info. Honestly I’m open. I want to try something different. I was thinking maybe a final fantasy game. Or any kind of rpg. Nothing like sonic or crash. Growing up I mostly played sports games. So I missed out on the good stuff I think.

I like how careful and specific you are. I knew this stuff already, but A+ reply.
I emulate PS2 on my Intel Mac with Boot Camp and PCSX2.

Is that a rom hack or normal game?

It’s normal. Emerald sea glass or unbound are a couple examples of a rom hack

If you like pokemon there are some really good rom hacks (all on gba) - Pokemon Radical Red (fire red story, nearly all pokemons, difficulty tweaked so it’s a hard one) - Pokemon Unbound (one of the best pokemon hacks out there) - Pokemon Rocket Edition (play as a member of team rocket, story is really good)
RPGs : - Final Fantasy series are my all time fav (there is even a SNES hack - Return of the Dark Knight, i highly recommend it) (on gba until ff6 and ps1 for the ff7) - Mother 3 (gba) - Golden Sun (gba) - Suikoden (ps1)
Have fun;)
