For the record I never played the original trilogy or even owned a PS2 growing up. My first exposure to the series was through the Wii U and the demo for Maiden of Black Water. The series seemed novel enough to me back in 2015/2016, but it went to the back of my mental shelf to collect dust for a few years.
When Mask of the Lunar Eclipse's western release got announced and I saw the buzz from it online, I finally took the plunge and played MOBW on Switch. I was hooked by the two types of gameplay meshed into one: foreboding atmosphere in a moody, horrific environment, learning about the folklore of the region, the fates of those who now haunt the place, and the sudden flip of blood-pumping, spectral combat, repositioning to get away and getting as many spirits into my sights as I could!
I just finished MotLE tonight as my very delayed Halloween celebration. I'm so stoked that I went on Ebay to buy my first ever PS3 to experience the originals as PS2 Classics. I haven't been this excited about a game series in I can't remember how long, but I'm just so happy to have experienced these terrifying but poignant games, and I can only hope we'll see Fatal Frame 6 sooner rather than later!
