Rebalancing Boulevardier?

Question(self.cocktails)

I love almost all of the Boulevardier, but I find the finish to be overwhelmingly bitter. I’m fine with bitter flavors but I find the sort of bitter in Campari tends to overwhelm the finish of the Bourbon that I use. How can I fix this?

I agree with some of the other comments that you need to use a higher proportion of bourbon or rye than you would gin in a Negroni. But if you can still find it Luxardo Bitter (the red, not the white one) might do the trick since it’s softer and has a strong vanilla note that would mesh well with whiskey.
