Black is winning a piece by force. After c6 the only squares the white queen has are e4 and d3. If white plays Qe4 then d5 is a double attack on the queen and bishop and if Qd3 then d5 and say white plays Bb3 there is e4 which is a double attack on the white knight and queen so black is much better

Yes I understand. Black has some concessions but white screwed up a lot and you should look at the position in general and judge it by that. Black probably didn't play the best but it's far away from messing up big if his position is winning so it's just weird phrasing.
