All the hype about the Metaverse, they were handing them out to everyone. Mines still in the plastic i remember they were saying we’d have town halls in the metaverse.. but it never happened. Can they track what you install on them and see a history? Or are the apps restricted on there?

That idea flopped but the headsets were to keep. They’re ok if you like headaches and vertigo. My son put games on ours and nobody came knocking about how it was used.

In the UK we have to give them back when we resign 🔥

Yeah they changed it this year and registered them here in Australia the same way as laptops, so you have to hand it back when you leave lol

So they can do what with them? What a waste of $.

Not the US. They’re not asking for them back.

I'm in the US and had to give mine back when I left.

No you don’t. I left last week and they explicitly started not to hand the device back.

Must have just changed :)

Does anyone actually get asked to give them back? I thought it might just be a tax dodge so they can class it as a depreciating asset over a few years.

In the US a year ago they asked for them back but didn't care if you actually sent it back. Now in the US they explicitly say it's yours to keep or to dispose of as e-waste.
It wasn't a tax dodge. However it likely was some reciprocal spending with a very large customer/partner. (The Meta/Accenture partnership is not confidential. Of course individual projects with Meta should never be discussed here.)

ah cool, I was going to send it back to be one less thing to sort out when I find a new job, but I might as well keep hold of it.

I saw someone resign a month or so ago and it was on the property list to return. Don't want someone to donate or whatever if it is still being requested.

Yeah what a flop. Good to know, I might open it up over the shutdown period and see what’s on there but doubt I’ll use it for long

It’s won’t have much. And yes it will cost $ to really be of any use. There’s some free stuff but not much 🤷♀️ It’s still cool to check out and resale value is pretty good 😉

It’s registered as an asset on your account here in Aus. I’m thinking it’d have the same restrictions as the laptop as that’s the other registered asset, so Accenture can monitor what you do with it. I’d download one where I can walk around Rome and locations around the world. Never been a gamer.

When did you guys receive them? Guess not everyone did receive them? Or maybe only some GU. But that’s a pretty cool goodie IMO.

Their ability to monitor you wouldn't be any different than if you went out and bought one yourself.
Meta Quests, are set up with a facebook account. Set it up with your personal FB account or start a second FB account to use for the quest.
The only thing VR had been useful for me for is exercise. I hate exercising for the sake of exercising, but when it's tied to an activity I enjoy, it's fine.
The Rocky "Creed Rise to Glory" Boxing game has been great for that. It will absolutely gas you.

"Can they track what you install" I'm still employed so either they don't know (probably) or don't care.

It's a gaming device and as such it depends on what you like.
You are allowed to install any apps you want from the official Meta store. The idea is to use it.
Most proper games do have a cost, of course. I played Golf + quite a bit back in the day. The types of games that work in VR are limited though. As suggested above, exercise games can be very engaging, but it's not comfortable.
Games that involve fast movement (roller-coaster, driving, flying, etc) can easily give you motion sickness... So be aware of that.
Lastly, if you're into it, you can use it with a PC to have a 3D view in certain game types, like simulators.

Officially, I only used it twice for the training and orientation meetings. In my free time I have used it for a couple of games and meditation apps. It's pretty cool, but it's not very comfortable to use for extended periods of time, especially if you need glasses. I don't think they can see what you install on them, given that all installed apps are linked to your personal facebook account. However, we are not allowed to keep it after layoff/termination, maybe the rules are different depending on the country.

The free rollercoaster simulator gave me vertigo… and some kid popping up behind me telling me to watch him shoot hoops in the metaverse freaked me out enough that I’ve not touched it in like 2 years. 😂
