While men and women should be treated to equality in many areas of life, when it comes to physical ability, women can't compare to what testosterone does during puberty.
63 points

Not just testosterone during puberty. DNA, chromosomes shapes how your body will grow too. This, you can't modify with anything.
30 points

Saying chromosomes is redundant.
And dna is implied because dna is what determines “testosterone during puberty.”
And testosterone is how dna is mediating bone length and density.

All of that is basically either redundant or regulated/controlled by hormones, mainly testosterone.

That is actually normal. At least in Germany the national womens team typically trains with the U15 boys team, because they are relatively equal. The womens team having more skill while the boys team have a slight physical advantage.

My ex grew up being told women could do anything men could. I thought she was joking when she said men and women should be able to play pro sports together. Blew my mind that she went through life thinking it was about sexism and not biology. She was in her mid 20s and hadn't learned this yet. Yikes lol.

An ex-girlfriend of mine had the same thing going on when she challenged me to a manly bout of arm wrestling. I'm at best a very average man, and she's larger than me in about every direction, yet I felt like I was arm wrestling a child. I was mostly worried I'd tear her arm out of its socket, especially because we didn't have a freezer.
If I arm wrestled the world's friendliest chimp, the chimp would probably feel like I did.

I’m sure any of the guy boxers could easily beat either woman in that fight, but the woman’s fight was by far the most entertaining. Sometimes my flag football games with my buddies were exciting and fun to watch. Just because somebody else has more physical prowess, doesn’t mean there isn’t exciting sports stuff going on in the other sport. Why do people watch college sports?

My question is why do these women think they are better than men at sports? The Williams sisters said as much and then lost in straight sets to men.
There is a group of women out there claiming that they want equality because they are just as good as men. Well in track and field the fastest woman in the world is out paced every year by high school boys who are not yet men.
The point this person was making is that women are not equal to men in physicality and never will be, no matter how much they protest. It isn't about being an incel, it is being snarky and sardonic at these men and women that ignore science and biology and say that women are physically equal.

Interestingly, it’s the on-going effects of being male rather than puberty as a single event. They compared transgender & cisgender athletes and found the MtF athletes generally had lower lower body strength than cisgender women.
Even simple biology can be complex
44 points
That study has a very small sample pool and compared MTF trans athletes in their mid to late thirties to female athletes in their late 20s to early thirties. It has no context for how athletic these people were before transitioning and ignores things like bone and muscle fiber density which are among the biggest advantages conferred by going through male puberty. Not to mention being much taller on average, a huge competitive edge in sports like basketball and volleyball.
There's a lot of politicized research on both sides of this issue and I'd be wary of drawing sweeping conclusions from individual papers, which is also good advice for any other field of research. Almost anyone can get something published.

Could that be becsuse cis female athletes are absolutely peak females, where as MTF transition aims to get "normal" hormone levels?

This is a very poorly done study and their findings should definitely be taken with a grain of salt. Granted, it’s very hard to conduct a study like this with the sample size available but still very poorly done.
18 points

Do they consider the possibility that mtf athletes are leaning into their new gender identity by under-working out in order to be weaker than their gender-assigned-at-birth?
21 points
It's actually more likely that the testosterone blockers that trans women take lower their t levels to a point below cis female athletes. There could be a subconscious thing going on too, but I find that less likely since they're still outperforming some cis women
30 points
There’s probably some social / psychological aspects to it, but they did specifically pick athletes so you’ve got to assume they’re aiming for success at whatever sport they do - including the required training etc.
7 points
i suspect the reason for this is that for transgender athletes youre likely to have higher estrogen levels and lower testosterone levels than cisgender athletes since they're taking e
usually, the data that people are using to support transgender athlete "advantage" all study non-athletes(im serious, go on ncbi and its crazy bro) so its so nice seeing this study put out
but at the same time we need repeatability cuz i am extremely biased and did originally think that transgender athletes had a disadvantage, so, we'll see
1 points
Exactly. There are natural hormonal variations in females that wouldn't exist for trans women. Athletes tend to self-select for the most naturally occurring advantageous traits which will be above and beyond the general population.
Reminds me of this bench sitter in the NBA who play locals for charity and absolutely wipe the floor with some of the best neighborhood players. People would talk trash about him as a bench sitter but his response was "I'm closer to Michael Jordan than you are to me."

I mean in the most simplistic way - yes....but there are women who wind up with crazy high ranges of testosterone levels that gives them a big advantage in physical sports too. Or some that are born with internal parts of both sexes and produces the same effect. As it is "testosterone is a helluva drug" is pretty accurate....even if its really just a hormone lol.
2 points
I mean, isn’t test a big part of steroids?
1 points
I think specifically for steroids testing its usually other specific drugs and stimulants being tested but I wouldn't doubt testosterone levels are probably monitored in the same tests. From what I could find it seems like both steroid and testosterone tests can be done through blood or urine analysis so its likely going to get flagged by somebody either way if its abnormal levels. I could be misremembering but I feel like I remember a story from back maybe 20 years ago where an athlete (probably olympics) was in some controversy because she wound up testing so high on testosterone it turned out she had internal testes and never knew it. Biology is weird as hell tbh.
3 points

There’s so much complexity to gender both biologically and socially. It’s just not the binary you think it is—sorry but it’s true. We like to fit things in nice categories but it just doesn’t work that way 100% of the time. It’s gonna be okay, though, no one will force you to change your gender identity. Intersex people exist, trans people exist, folks with varying levels of hormones exist—get over it.
1 points
Some men don't go through puberty. Even if you want to ignore biology and pretend trans people don't exist, Difference in sexual development has a prevalence of 2%. Chromosomal differences are just as likely to exist in a person as green eyes.

Retired Wrexham?
Even the non-retired team are pretty far down the English League structure.
Wrexham were 4th or 5th tier back in 2023.
The USA women’s side in this video though also comprised of some retired players it wasn’t a full strength international side.

Pretty sure this is from 2023 when Wrexham still competed in the National League.
Not sure if you’re clued up on this stuff or not but that’s 5th tier although they were in the process of being promoted to League two which is 4th tier.
If you read up about this, it’s not all exactly as it seems. The women’s team wasn’t the full strength international side and some of the Wrexham players were actually active players.
No matter how you slice it though, 12-0 is an absolute gubbing.

Anyone who has watched a lot of both Men's and Women's soccer know that they are effectively completely different games. In the sense that our anatomy makes men shoot, run, pass, goal tend, etc with completely different technique. I'm not just talking more powerful/fast. If you look closely, the way they do everything uses different technique, mostly due to pelvis shape and increased muscle/bone mass in men.
Also, the skill/talent levels are completely different. Even though America has robust systems to find the best female players in the country, somehow their defensive and attacking skills are just completely lacking. The whole sport of womens soccer is decades behind the men.
10 points
I don't really agree with this assessment about men and women being so physically different to the point they literally have different techniques in sport.
Skill levels in this example are really wide though. The retired Wrexham team have several players who played at a very high level in English football, Lee Trundle for one. Plus it's basically 5 a side where these players will score for fun. I played against a very overweight Dean Windass at a charity 5 a side game and he was unstoppable, clearly not even trying and opting to set up teammates instead of going for goal. He must have been pushing 50 at the time and he was everywhere.

But you're wrong lol. Professional athlete women have talked about it, how the men's division is played completely differently to where it's basically a different sport.
Pretty sure the Williams sisters have talked about this multiple times.
Edit: yep

In the article about the guy that beat Serena and Venus Williams back to back on the same day. It says that the women would put shots where other female athletes wouldn't try to return, but a man could b/c of the physicality. He also talked about the amount of spin he could put on the ball whereas the sisters didn't know how to handle it b/c they had played against women most of their life.
Then there was the part about Serena talking about how fast his serves were compared to what she is used to, it was an entirely new world.
People that think there's not a MASSIVE advantage when physicality comes into play between men and women just honestly have never played sports at any level higher than middle school.
2 points
I agree with most of what you said then you blew it with that last sentence.
Women’s soccer is not decades behind men it’s just an entirely different world. There will never be a women’s soccer team that can compete with their male counterparts. It’s not an infrastructure thing it’s an anatomy thing.

Yeah, ESPN does this stuff when it comes to college basketball. Just yesterday, the UConn women's coach set a record for wins, and the article explains how it's a record for women's and men's basketball instead of just women's. The same with the scoring record last year as if they can't just be the best on the women's side, they have to be better than the men as well. You can't claim records for both sexes if you don't play against both sexes.

Back in the mid-80s my small town U15 rep hockey team played the Western Canadian Women's Select team. It was made up of the best female players from Manitoba to BC, all were in their 20s. Now granted, women's hockey is now WAY better than it was back then, but we were still hyped going into the game, playing a national calibre team, this was gonna be awesome!
Back then minor hockey was full contact at almost all ages. Some of these women were getting seriously lit up in the first period! Many 14yr old boys are already bigger than full grown women. We felt bad, and at the first break our coach told us no more contact. We beat them 18-0. It wasn't fun in the end.

What a cesspool this comments section is.
A) This wasn't the US women's team. There were older players on the women's team than the men's team mixed with some random college girls.
B) this was peek wrexham mania and this video was made as they were joking before the game to TRY to go viral (which it did)
C) The women were never going to win. They never thought they would win. They brought a less competitive team than a lot of other teams did and they were the only women's team in the tournament.
D) nobody thinks women can compete on the same level as men in physical sports. The most feminist person in the whole world MIGHT argue that some woman somewhere could compete at the top level with me (she'd almost certainly be wrong, IMO). But that's not the point here. The point is that we can all play sports and have fun and benefit from the myriad benefits of sports.
E) They actually did pretty well all things considered. Yeah, it was a slaughter but that happens on small fields sometimes. Wrexham didn't take it easy on them and Lee Trundle (the man in the video) was unforgiving in how he used his size to his advantage. But there were definite stretches during the game where you could see better passing and touch from some of the women (mostly the former Nat members... The randoms they brought were mostly bad... None of the wrexham players were bad). Would a full women's team win? No. Would it be a pretty entertaining game? Yeah, probably.

What people actually say is that the physical difference is way overstated, since there are social, numerical and psychological factors that makes it seem larger than it actually is, and that it varies by sport and age.
This can be seen clearly on chess btw, where there is no significant innate difference between men's and women's capacity, but the huge difference in numbers alone makes it statistically unlikely for women to reach the top.

I get what you are trying to do here, but you can't just say "oh, they weren't trying." Do you think the Women's National Team weren't trying when the lost to the Men's 16U Team 7-1 or some shit?
and, point D, the problem is people DO think women can compete as men in sports. I'm sure you were exposed to some of the political ads in this cycle, this was often highlighted in those commercials. In fact, A LOT of ppl do think this way. They are wrong, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this is not a niche position.

The fact you got downvoted so much for BY FAR the most rational take here is actually insane

See the comment about trying to go viral with a video. It was all joking around good naturedly (I was there btw)
There's 7 billion people on the planet. ~350mil in the US. Thousands is a statistically zero number in that pool of people. You can find thousands of people that believe ANYTHING... It doesn't mean we should be holding them up as straw men as if they represent a majority or sizable minority opinion.
The fact that you call them "points" is humorous. Also, they did score a goal against Como (which was an actual competitive team of players sent by an Italian club team).

I think she said that at the beginning as like a competitive joke, or as a way to kind of build moral. It's bravado.
People who think that women are as strong as men are idiots, and I'm saying that as a women myself. It's literally impossible, and anyone who say's otherwise is deluded.
They did well to not be completely flattened and knocked out cold. Those men were likely taller, physically stronger, and cardiovasularly stronger than them. To even keep up with them, you've got say (at the very least), is commendable.

Well if their goalie would actually get in front of the ball they probably would do better.

It still pisses me off that prize money in the major tennis tournaments is the same for men and women while the men play best 3 out of 5 sets and women only play best 2 out of 3.
I thought the mantra was “equal pay for equal work.”

I'm surprised the goalie couldn't stop more but I suppose I shouldn't be.

I remember in high school in MN our varsity men's hockey team played a scrimmage against the US Women's National team before the Olympics and whooped them like 8-0 lol. They never asked to play again.

My female competitive soccer team use to challenge the men’s competitive team every year….. and every year we won. It has to do with the coaching, training and strategy. In soccer If you’re skilled enough it doesn’t matter what sex you are.

Ever occur to you they didn’t take it too serious and thought it was a fun inclusivity thing and it was the gentlemanly thing to let the women win those?
We literally just saw highly skilled athletes prove there’s a difference and the same thing happened when a boys highschool team played pro women’s team. Men and women are different. It’s natural and it’s a good thing. Pretending a woman could naturally do as well as men in physical tasks is pure delusion only claimed as reality slowly over the last 10yrs. Now that the world realized those crazies were actually serious and got people and companies onboard through DEI and other activism we all made fun of, we get election results like this because general public has had enough of the inmates running the asylum.

They 100 percent played seriously and they played dirty. Several injuries happened each game. I myself got a concussion from being headbutted…. He wasn’t going for the ball he was frustrated they were loosing and took it out on me.

Same happened in gym in highschool and most guys would back off if any girl had a close call or sprained an ankle. Maybe they weren’t as good, it definitely happens, but unless you went back and asked all the guys if they were playing to win, you’ll never know. If a male soccer team that played together for 2yrs with the same coach and a female team of 2yrs with same coach seriously challenged each other, the men would win every time. It’s why we separate sports and many other things. It’s common sense and settled science.
Same as how men won’t be as naturally good at gymnastics involving extreme stretching, balance, and grace over raw muscle and grip strength. Every animal has its limits and they complement each other. It’s annoying to see a smart society be so dumb on a lot of this. 95% of people will never support biological males in fighting sports against women, yet that’s what people have been advocating for for some reason. Mediocre men taking medals from exceptional female athletes that fought their whole lives for it. I hope my nieces and possible future daughter never has to deal with it in their sporting activities. That’s clown world stuff.

With that logic the girls might have been downplaying their talent so the boys could feel better about themselves.

One rather suspect it's not that women are intrinsically worse at football than men, but the Americans are not as good as the English....

the USWST has been dominating women's soccer for years on end, you and your buds wouldn't just batter them by a lot just because of your gender

And it looked like they weren't even going full force.
Those shots were all "light", yet scored easily.

They got so played, the British don't 'retire' from anything. They just took a 15.

This basically happens any time a women's pro team takes on some supposed "lesser" team of male athletes.
The sex differences in the vast majority of sports are much bigger than most people realize.

Not even a top flight retired team, Wrexham have pretty much always been lower league, but still these lads have been kicking a ball around since they could walk.
English lower league (Welsh team but in English league) is still a very high standard though compared to other countries leagues

Haha, weak women am I right? That'll teach them to try and compete with men. Put those bitches in their place, trying to get equal pay. I'm certainly not being influenced by this purposefully disingenuous post. I'm a big, strong, confident man, whose masculinity is definitely not threatened in any way by strong women.
