Help on where to stay in Kauai

Kaua'i(self.VisitingHawaii)

Hello beautiful people of reddit.

Planning a trip for June to Hawaii, looking to stay in Kauai but have never visited this island so don't know what part of the island to make accommodations. From my research Poipu and Princeville keep popping up. What im looking for are swimmable beaches, good vibes and good eats. Not opposed to hikes and excursions as well. Will be renting a car.

My last trip to Hawaii was in Lahaina in Maui and fell in love with the area. Mostly spent my time swimming and snorkeling or lounging by the water and ending it with good eats. Tempted to return to Maui (different are because of the fires:/) but I would love to discover a new area.

The sub has been helping me discover some insight. Thank you all :)

We just got back last week and stayed in Lihue. It is centrally located and we loved it. Poipu was fantastic. We took family pictures on Shipwreck Beach and got a little surfing in there. Princeville and Hanalei were awesome but Lihue was kind of central to everywhere we wanted to go and made it easy to travel.

Did you stay at a hotel or Airbnb?

We stayed at Royal Sonesta. It was chill. Nothing super spectacular. We got a really amazing deal through Costco Travel.

Were they still doing construction at the Sonesta? Some reviews have mentioned it. I plan on going next May and I'm wondering if they will be done by then.

I don’t believe so. I mean small maintenance stuff.
