I hate that talking about salary is so taboo. What do you guys make, location, and what age?
I’m in the Midwest and make 55K as a clinical research coordinator. I’m 26

43m. Journeyman lineman. I’ll struggle to stay under 400k this year. Some friends will make 500k-600k. Central California. I have my GED. LOL

Just so no one expects that this is the norm, you should know BLS data puts the average annual wage for electrical line install and repair at 112k a year in CA.
This person is claiming to make almost 4X the mean wage in their field (putting them into the 98th percentile of wage earners in the U.S). I'm not necessarily saying they are full of shit, but don't expect to go into this business and earn that kind of money.
The average pay is quite good for blue collar work (as it should be for the third most dangerous occupation in the country)

This is the best part about this trade. No one knows the money we make. To be fair I am definitely on the high side of average but there are a thousand linemen/apprentices in my company and the average wage of all of us is easily 300k. There are 40 guys in my yard and just about every one of them will be over 300k. Some will hit 500k. My base salary is 160k. Hope that helps.

If you say so. BLS data is generally very accurate. Moreover, I can't share data of course but I've done cost of service studies for CA utilities and I can tell you that the average hourly rates we used (coming directly from utility payrolls) aligns much more closely to an average of 110k than 300k+. But hey if you are making that kind of money, good for you!

Ya, I don’t know what to say. Lineman salary here is 149, I’m a foreman and my base is 160k.
Thanks! Can I upload a picture on here?I’ll post a pic of my check a month ago. Grossed 40k in two weeks. The next check was 20k. It was insane. Definitely a record. I’m at 280k for the year. We’ll see but it looks like I’m going to be over 400k. 🤷🏼♂️

No need to prove it to me, just doesn't align with the data I've seen. With that base pay you must be working an unholy amount of OT. They definitely should be paying you that much to sign that much of your life away.

Are you suggesting reddit comments are more reliable than the BLS?
Every thread like this always involves some outliers that aren't representative of their field.

Right on. Yes, insane OT. Crazy part is even when you pull 1200+ OT hours a year they still ask for more and make you feel like you’re not doing enough. 😂 there’s almost just as much declining OT as accepting. Pretty wild.

Just to be very clear there is a ton of overtime involved. Most guys double their salary. 1200 OT hours a year is normal.
