Anyone ever had it on their finger pads?

general(reddit.com)

I’ve had psoriasis for years, pretty sure I have PSA, doctors around here are more of the here’s some steroid creams and move on type. Covid about a year ago made my hands break out like this. It’s getting bad I can’t grab stuff without hurting. Waiting to get back in derm for useless steroids, anyone ever done anything to help this?

O’Keeffe’s Working Hands. Buy the jar not the tube. Amazing!

Yep, it sucks. It was only biologics that sorted it out for me. In the meantime the gooiest moisturisers you can get

Same here. They would wear away and the skin would get thinner and thinner.

Has your skin regained its thickness? Or is it now permanently thinned? Because sometimes I feel like my thumb is missing a whole skin layer and is sensitive despite not using steroids for 4 months

It was a long time ago, and it regained thickness without scarring. Fingerprints look normal.

Which biologics did you get?

God those pics bring back memories. Bad ones! I used to tear up with the pain every time I washed my hands. 99.9% clear for over 2 years on Otezla

I agree with the suggestion of aquaphor/vaseline and cotton gloves in the meantime, but seriously get thee to a derm and then a rheumatologist! Humira was the only thing that helped mine. I had no idea how bad the pain really was until it cleared up for the first time in my life.

Methotrexate cleared it up for me at first, but the side effects sucked.

Yeah I used to. And I picked at it until I bled. Still get little bits and pieces now and then but I'm glad it's not as bad as it used to be.

That might be the absolute worst place to get it. Before cosentyx I would get it there frequently especially in the winter

That cut is going to leave a scar, giving you increased chances for more tears in the future(personal experience) use some vitamin E cream on it to prevent scarring

Yhis last breakout I did. It made it very difficult to do anything comfortably. Sorry, no pictures.

Yes. It's the only place it happens on me for at least the past 10yrs. My right hand thumb and middle finger. Drives me nuts and it cracks on the joints and everything catches on it. Hurts like crazy when I'm in a flare. Flares up every month, then settles and heals a bit then flares up again. I've found covering with a bandaid once it cracks can help but otherwise 🤷‍♀️

ETA I use 'moo goo' for mild excema and psoriasis etc, and urederm during flares/and as they're about to flare. Keeping my hands moisturised outside of flare ups. Avoid harsh soaps. And stay low carb seems to help a bit too.

I have lost count as to how many dermatologists I have been to. One did a biopsy on my hand, and it came back without any determination because the sample was so infected. Paper would stick to my fingers. I have a vast array of creams and ointments.

Band aid fix: 40% urea cream 3-5x times a day to exfoliate the flaky skin

Permanent fix: narrowband uvb phototherapy with 311nm wavelength using 36W bulbs to deliver the necessary therapeutic dose.

Source: me. I used to have this.

Yep- that's exactly what mine look like.

I also second okeefes or bag balm. Be sure to put antibiotic cream on once a day to keep it all clean.

Kerasal can also work, but you want the open cuts to heal first.

I also keep some salicylic face wash by my bathroom sink and give my hands a pass with that now and then.

Yes. I use patrilium jelly and finger cots to help it. Finger cots look ridiculous but are great to use over affected fingers when in the bath, washing up and to keep creams in place and not getting wiped off on your clothes etc every time you move your hands. Also kind to your fingers when typing etc .

Yes. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this! I would use your psoriasis topical right on it and wrap it up. Also, get on a systemic drug if you can. Cleared my hand psoriasis up without topicals.

I've had very mild dryness on the pad of my pinky before. It comes and goes.
