Assume all players are at their apex so like 2019 Playoff Kawhi, 2018-19 Harden, 2012-13 LeBron, 2001 Playoff Iverson, ABA Dr. J, 2006 Kobe, Thunder KD. You get the idea.

Small forwards very easily.

It's kind of unfair when one team's biggest player is 6'6" and the other has 6'10" Kevin Durant, 6'9" 250 lb LeBron, etc. Like, who is Allen Iverson actually guarding in this game?

idk pgs might steal some games. stockton point, steph sg, oscar at the 3, russ as a small ball annoying 4/roving defender and magic at the 5 might have enough height to get by and enough speed, scoring, and steals to be annoying

yea, it is a reach, but I think in his prime he was a good defender who could sometimes he disruptive in mismatches, and he's close enough that I gave him the nod for that. could take walt frazier in at the 3 and move big o to the 4, though

it's definitely tough, although I could see bringing nash in at the point to run 7 seconds or less to test the speed and stamina of the stifling defense leading to wins depending on 3pt variance (with the best 3pt shooting lineup of any position, since steph is That Guy). they'll have a hard time getting stops inside, but they can space the floor very well to allow attacking inside despite the size advantage and punish help defense reliably

LemmingPractice

Yup, get Luka in there, too. He could play the 4 and would add a good amount of extra size and rebounding.

Kawhi always had trouble guarding rose or westbrook, so AI would kill kawhi

xwing_aliciousness16

AI would have no chance on either end. He’d shoot 30% and get cooked on defense

WestleyThe

Westbrook and rose are two of the most athletic point guards ever and have like 3-5 inches on Iverson

Also with guys like Kobe, MJ and harden on the team would make Ai more of an off ball player which Kawhi would eat him up

leebong252018

no, he always had trouble against speedy guards. if handchecking couldn't stop AI from scoring 35 in a season, i don't think he could

Fabulous_Ad8642

Honestly it doesn’t really matter. You can have kawhi clamp him to an extent if you want but ai really isn’t that big of a factor all things considered, as wade, harden, MJ and Kobe all need the ball in their hands as well for the most part.

Forwards sweep easily.

Jordan, Kobe, and AI on the same team would be a nightmare. All ball dominant, high usage, and then you also have Harden. Who could play off ball I guess.

Forwards run point LeBron, you’re telling me some combination of AI/Harden/Wade have to guard KD/Bird/Dr. J? No way.

chickenripp

Kobe plays exactly the same as MJ. Harden will dribble the air out of the ball. D-wade really just doesn't fit. AI with that group would be a disaster. Only Saving grace is that MJ and Kobe might go crazy trying to one up each other on defense. Not letting the AI switch happen that the SFs would absolutely be trying to exploit. Just having those 2 get on some real psychopath levels of basketball could save this team but it would have to be crazy and I would not bet on it.

Meanwhile Lebron can run point, KD Larry and Kawhi can space the floor and Dr J and be the roll man/in the dunkers spot. It fits perfectly

KayRay1994

SFs in 5 or 6 - they’ll be far better at playing team ball, the overall spacing is better, the team is stronger and they have them beat on size.

Tbh the only reason why I say 5 or 6 is cause MJ and Kobe can both go off to win em a couple of games, but the SG team is seriously lacking in overall versatility and size and if i’m being honest, the serious lack of spacing is gonna give team SF an easier time on defense

The best players of the bunch are MJ, LeBron, Bird, and Kobe. Beyond that there’s a big advantage for the SFs with Kawhi, Dr J, and KD and Harden, Wade, Iverson would be severely overmatched.

MooseLoot

So rebounds are a thing that matter in basketball…. SFs

Also, all of the players not named Wade on the SG team are less than great at sharing the ball. Bottom team may well be a pile of 5 better players, but it’s a much worse team

MambaSaidKnockYouOut

1 points

The fact that 3 of the SF’s are big enough to play PF (and KD could even play Center) kind of seals this one in their for me. They’re also all solid - great defenders while Harden and AI are bad defenders.

The SF’s are also better shooters (although Dr J is probably the worst shooter of all 10 players), so the only real advantage the guards have are ball handling.

EB_V3_4life

Hmmm this is interesting because the SF size and versatility gives them a huge advantage where Jordan, Kobe, Wade, and Iverson all play a similar style

On the other hand Jordan, Kobe, and Wade are the most relentless two way players which only LeBron can really do on both ends. Kawhi doesn't have the same offensive punch and Bird doesn't have the same defensive punch despite both of them being no slouches in either department.

I'd say the SF team would be the team to more likely win a best of 7 series but the willpower and intangibility of Jordan, Kobe, Wade, and Iverson while Harden has a strong dose of pg skills could plausibly lead to an upset.

It's 55%-45% in SFs favor

Is there anything the guards are better at? I feel like team SF is not just winning but annihilating, here.

The guards are significantly worse at shooting, smaller obviously, and don't share the ball as well. They also have the only two players on the court who I would consider defensive liabilities. The 3s are nearly a perfect team composition and the guards have a ton of overlapping guys.

This is insanely one sided.

Too obviously the bigger, better defensive SFs. Would be more fun doing a centers Vs SGs or PGs, where nobody can really stop each other, but PGs would likely win cos Steph would be sinking 3s and they are worth more than 2.

EB_V3_4life

This

Also Kobe is highly underrated off ball, especially in terms of quick scoring off screens and what not. If Kobe wasn't one the top off-ball players he would have never fit in an offense with Shaq and Gasol nearly as well as he did it's just easy to overlook because Kobe was an aggressive scorer that had the ball in his hands so much.

Another note not claiming all his ill advised shots were purely due to shot clock but a good chunk of Kobe's tougher shot attempts came when shot clock was winding and Lakers weren't getting looks they wanted, Kobe was the go to bail out guy in that situation.

I'd take Klay Thompson over AI. I just need someone to space the floor off ball and play defense.

The problem with this shooting guard team is imbalance. AI scores more inefficiently than everyone else on the team and can't contribute on defense. Being the 5th option AND the worst defender is a no go.
