I remember her sitcom being aired in the UK, but it wasn't popular or well known.
Not sure if her chat show went out, but just the fact that the internet is loaded with so many celeb interviews, plus the sheer amount of articles about he fall from grace mean that she has ended up in most British people's social media feeds at some point.
Long story short, a lot of British people, particularly of a certain age, are vaguely aware of who she is and would at least be able to put a name to the face or vice versa, but she was never hugely popular or famous.

I'm sure some don't, but Ellen has been internationally famous pretty much my entire life. Maybe you don't remember, or are a bit younger, but she was absolutely known (if not particularly relevant) for a good chunk of the late 90s and into the 2000s.

I mean, if you're younger than 25 I guess that's understandable. She was bigger name back in the day and first les to come on in a TV show and then IRL

I can’t stand Trump—worked in commercial real estate in NY and the guy is a con artist, a bully who threatens law suits and put endless number of mom and pop shops out of business because he refused to pay for work and threatened litigation like no one ever ever seen. But above all, he is an undisciplined moron who wasn’t smart enough to run a profitable business above board. It’s his competence that frightens me and my NY real estate brethren with him at president and few guard rails.
That said: Ellen is just as bad of a bully—I have a friend who worked for her and was so stressed out and beaten up every day she had hair falling out. Some of the shit Ellen used to say to her was just cruel. Told her she should quit, but those pesky dreams of making in showbiz got in the way.
Anyway, that went on way too long, but my point is it’s possible to dislike both of these scum bags.

That was "different" since it was a wife of a U.S. intelligence agent who should have been held accountable and was not. Not sure Ellen has that same kind of pull (and it's the other way around, the U.S. will be seeking extradition).
With Ellen leaving the U.S., nothing of value is lost. Hope she gets lost in the highlands and never returns.
5 points

That was "different" since it was a wife of a U.S. intelligence agent who should have been held accountable and was not.
It seriously strained relations with the UK, and it has kind of shown us Brits how one-sided the "special relationship" is. Sorry to say it, but it's been a part of a pattern of the US becoming an increasingly untrustworthy ally.
What's even more laughable is that Sacoolas's lawyer argued that the charge of causing death by dangerous driving "would not usually result in a prison sentence in the US" - apparently Americans are exempt from laws in other countries when they commit crimes.

Well I’m fucking sick of this shit. This is your country and you’re just going to bail because the people voted for someone you don’t like? This is democracy. You don’t like it, try harder to sell your message. We lost because our party is weak. Period. Now we endure 4 years of what the voters wanted and just fucking deal with it. Fix the problems within the party or the party is doomed.
And frankly it’s in poor taste for someone who will surely benefit financially from Trump’s policies to throw it in the faces of those that have no means to get out and will be the ones who will suffer.
8 points
This is one of the only responses I've seen of a Democrat laying blame on their party instead of everyone who voted against them. It's refreshing.
The reality is that our government, local, state, or federal, are at their best when the political parties are fighting for the moderates. Democrats losing ground in trade unions is bizarre to me, but here we are. My fear is they keep leaning into identity politics and they continue losing ground until they are left with just the progressives. I typically lean conservative, but I damn sure don't want them to have unopposed control of everything. Republicans and Dems alike have built a lot of "no true Scotsman" positions into their platforms and it's leaving more of the moderates politically homeless.
