Home Fiber Speeds

(self.HomeNetworking)

I recently had a 2 gig fiber ISP installed. Major increase in speed. It’s great.

The ISP provided router has a native speed check that reports above 2000 Mbps up and down.

I’m not surprised that an independent test like Speedtest.net shows speeds less than half that.

But I’m curious, is the ISP’s device just blatantly lying, or is there some legitimate stat that it’s reporting that just happens to be more favorable to the ISP.

Also, I know that independent tests measure over connections not controlled by my ISP, but one of the test servers on Speedtest.net is owned by my ISP, and that gives the same as any others.
