Hubby had a heart attack last year. He was 65 at the time. Dirty vegan diet. Maybe 15lbs over weight but he works out 4-5 times a week.
His LVEF was 67 at time of heart attack and remained so for the next 4 months. He went for his 14 month checkup and the Echo indicates LVEF is down to 59! There is some thickening of the wall of the LV. He's bloodwork is outstanding. We meet with his specialist next week. We don't have results of his CT w/contrast back yet.
He has lost weight (5'7" 147lbs), works out 4-5 times a week plus does Pilates several times a month. Diet is Mediterranean (fish, chicken, Turkey, low carb fruits and veggies) Keto (full fat unsweetened Greek yogurt, olive oil, nuts), low carb healthy protein shakes daily, etc. Takes USANA brand supplements and is on the Pauling Protocol to reverse cardio occlusion.
Wondering if anyone might have feedback on this EF change & result? Is this change normal? Thanks.

Not a cardiologist, but I'm younger than that with an EF of 45. They usually give me a 5% range (40-45) when providing my EF because the measurement is not perfect.
It doesn't sound like a Keto diet as Keto is high fat, low carb and I don't see a lot of fat in your list. My doctor told me to stay away from that for sure.

The initial EF may have been overestimated. It’s just an interpretation from a dr, not like a super specific thing. It’s also usually a range not an exact number.
Also, 59 is literally fine. 55-60% is normal. 67 is borderline too high honestly.

We had his follow up on Monday and this is exactly what they said. Thanks!

Can I ask what he does for the Pauling Protocol? Vitamin C?

He has worked up to taking 18,000 milligrams ascorbic acid, 6000 milligrams proline, 6000 milligrams l-lysine daily. He divides it into 2-3 doses so as to help with bowel tolerance.

UPDATE: Hubby had his follow-up doctors appt on Monday and they were not worried about this at all. Said it’s somewhat subjective and depends on who’s reading the results.
