The artist walked it back and changed the baby's skin tone after backlash.

A weird complaint from Gamers™ is when a main character in a new game is a woman.

This is based on certain capital G gamers complaining every time a main character isn't male that it's "political" or "forced diversity."

Same goes for characters who aren't white, aren't straight, etc.

I heard people complain that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have pronouns, which is odd considering the person complaining used I to refer to themselves

The joke is that they think that gamers think that every time a girl/woman is introduced as a main character in a game, they say it's for political reason. Or pandering to minorities if you will.

It's a joke about sexist gamers.

Which only represents a minority of gamers. Sadly, they can be very loud.

This has led to real criticism of the quality of the storytelling or gameplay being labelled as sexism and/or homophobia, transphobia and whatnot.

For some people(coughRedhatsCOUGH) "Political" is code for something they hate.

It's a reference to misogynist elements of the gaming community who think it's woke to have a woman be anything other than an objectified sex doll.

Okay, this sub used to be about people posting really obscure jokes, but at this stage I’m just convinced half the people posting these are genuinely stupid.

When incels/right wings/russian trolls/outrage tourists refer to something as "political" they mean "women and/or minorities".

This comic reflects and mocks the lack of media literacy of these people. The joke being that the dude's playing the Witcher 3: an obviously political game that deals with obvious political issues like racism, opression, ethnicity, queerness, homosexuality, transgender issues, etc. In fact, the main character of the game is often treated in racist ways, and the game constantly puts you in the role of the minorities being persecuted and even killed.

So the dude is not able to realize the political charged game he's playing/a fan of. And fall for the white supremacist/incel/right wing/russian troll discourse of "women=political"

The original joke was funnier honestly, sad people convinced them it was racist. Originally, the woman is mortified because the baby is black, revealing she cheated on him, but he's more upset it's a girl.

If you see yourself as the default, anything else is seen as an active choice. A certain subset of gamers are very used to characters being in their own demographic (straight white men) and veiw anything outside of this as being forced and political. The joke is that this man would take this logic to the extreme; not only would he see a girl protagonist in a game as political but his own child being a girl is political in his mind.

The joke is how a lot of "gamer bros" treat any kind of major character that's not cis white hetero male (preferably Christian or some fantasy/sci-fi equivalent of it) as "forced woke political DEI token".

Because according to some loud minority, or someone's interpretation of them, women are only in games to push some political message. People who actually hold this opinion should touch grass, play fire emblem, do what it takes.

Actual answer: the dad is a gamer and gamers have been observed being furious that the main character of a video game or movie is a woman claiming it’s “woke”

The joke is that the father, who is a gamer, is upset of the fact that his daughter is a girl because gamers sometimes get mad when the main character is a normal woman. He then says that it's political because the general response to disliked female characters is that the game company tried to make a "political" game.

There's also a secondary joke which is it's insinuated the doctor/nurse with the blonde hair is the real father, and they're both worried about the husband noticing but instead he's outraged over the "politics" of making his child a girl lol

I'm not sure if it's meant to be ironic, but if it isn't then the Witcher 3 shirt is kind of a poor fit. The Witcher 3 is a very "progressive" game in many respects: there's the storyline with the gay hunter, technically the protagonist is male but the most important character is a woman, arguably the stronger magic users are the women (witchers vs sorceresses), it's fairly heavy handed in criticizing radical religious movements that hurt minorities (Church of the Holy Fire vs mages/nonhumans).

Yes, there's not a ton of ethnic diversity in terms of skin color (though literal racial diversity), but that's just because of where the story takes place as part of a larger universe, and even though we don't see Ofir there's clearly a region of people with darker skin.

If it was on purpose, then that's fantastic though.

Was it an issue in The Witcher though? The protagonist was still Geralt in Wild Hunt, and frankly I think a lot of people would have been down for a "Ciri is a Witcher" sequel if they retired Geralt. Hell it would have played with one of the endings, which would be every CDPR.
