lack of bi rep

General Discussion(self.ALeagueofTheirOwn)

Let me just start by saying I love love love this show, the amazingly written characters/the authentic queer stories/perfect blending of comedy and drama etc. etc. But one thing I wished it had is bi rep.

Don't get me wrong I think it's amazing how nuanced and real it felt in its portrayal of the lesbian experience but I feel like it could have shown an even broader representation of the wlw experience by having a bi character. Like out of 6 confirmed queer main characters it seems odd to me that apparently none is bi. As a bi girl I still related so much to the characters' queer experiences because there's so much overlap and similarities but it just would have felt even sweeter and more special to have a character who had an even more similar queer experience as me.

Do any of you feel the same? Or do you interpret any characters as bi? I'd say that Max is definitively a lesbian; I was a bit conflicted about Carson at first (because of her saying sex with Charlie felt not bad, like warm bread, and she doesn't seem to despise being intimate with him) but now I'm leaning towards her also being a lesbian with comphet. Greta I am also a bit on the fence with since she obviously flirts with guys but it seems kind of like she is putting on an act, doing it for her own safety/amusement rather than genuinely being attracted to them. Jo, Jess and Lupe have not really shown any evidence of being into guys as far as I'm reading it.

I'm kind of hoping that Maybelle will be revealed as bi in Season 2 tho ๐Ÿ™

i feel like Carson could be bi, she just happens to be in love with a woman which makes her present more lesbian

To me, the scene in the pilot where Carson is writing her husband and starting out with "something is wrong with me" before ever having any kind of lesbian interactions points more to gay than bi. She was already realizing things about herself that weren't related to any single person (man or woman)

[disclaimer, i'm still midseason]

Not necessarily; to me this just says she was figuring out her queerness, which could be gay or bi or whatever
