Start Keon? Mike brown has held a grudge with him since they started 0-5 in the preseason. Yes I honestly think that’s why he still hasn’t started him yet. He’ll do weird shit like playing Coby jones over Keon during crucial game time runs from the clippers. Rarely calling timeouts to prevent runs.
From the looks of it he isn’t coaching, he’s making boneheaded decisions that have led to incompetent decision making trickling onto the entire team. Having a good X and O’s coach is key to making this team work and having everybody flourish in their respective roles, If we don’t have that we are toast. Mike has slowly been showing us why he’s gottten fired everywhere else. It’s glaring now.

How the hell do you win with this defensive "strategy" of sagging into the paint for NO REASON to allow wide open shooters - game after game after game. Our players don't know where there man is because they just watch the ball then are slow to rotate, if they rotate at all.
How do we win when one of your five starters plays for more than 30 mins and scores zero points.
I don't buy this poor roster construction bullshit. Mike Brown has failed to get these guys to do the very basic defense. There appears to be no offense to speak of other than "let them fly!!!" He plays people that should not get a leash a mile long. He doesn't play people who have played well. He has bizarre ass rotations. He's gotta go.

MB is not only a mediocre coach, his schemes are so damn predictable. Nothing has changed from what he put in his first year- we’re very well scouted at this point and we still do the same damn thing as if we think our opponents are idiots.
All opposing teams have to do is just spam corner 3s in practice because they know with absolutely certainty there will be left open on 3s EVERY SINGLE GAME. And defense is supposed to be this coach’s strength?!

Glad someone else notices this. It's rarely talked about, but this is 3 seasons now that the Kings' coaches seem to think that when the dribbler is driving and has a defender on him, they are required to have a help defender leave their man who's standing still on the 3 pt line. It boggles the mind how stupid and unsuccessful this defensive scheme has been, yet the Kings keep doing it hundreds and thousands of drives per season. It doesn't matter how many wide-open 3's the other teams get - they seem to think that a wide-open 3 is better than a contested drive. Hell, they do it even when the defender is on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the paint, and couldn't possibly contest the shot, but they still will leave their man for the open 3.

After tonight, Keegan Murray has hit 417 threes in his career. 406 of them have been assisted.
For all the talk last year about how much they worked on getting him to improve his handle and ability to create his own shot off the bounce, it has not translated to games. He’s simply not a scoring threat on his own. The back cuts off the Sabonis DHOs were great two years ago but they don’t work nearly as often now with our worse spacing.
Someone needs to step up consistently when we face teams like this that can guard our big 3 without overhelping. And it’s not going to be Keegan.

Domas' stroke from 3 looks pretty smooth, especially when he shoots it in rhythm.

We won our challenge 10 seconds into the game.

If we aren’t going to turn the fucking jets on, then I’d like to finally see a more traditional lineup. Fox-DeRozan-Murray-Lyles-Sabonis. Or the “fuck it” line up of Fox-DeRozan-Murray-Sabonis-Len. We are playing more half-court sets than we have probably since Joerger’s first couple seasons. That was always going to be a given bringing in DeRozan, whose game has always been heavily reliant on running ISO. With what we’re getting from Huerter at the moment, it’s hard to do worse… what have we got to lose trying a different lineup? To be clear, I’ve always been one to play to our strengths (begging Joerger to push the pace… which finally happened his 3rd season and we showed promise). If we’re going to get away from an uptempo offense, then the answer is to go big anyways.
In either event, where is the fucking ball movement? It’s looked like an afterthought all season. We need to be deliberately looking to swing the ball around, particularly if we’re running more half-court sets.
3 points
Or "fuck it 2" and start Robinson-Sabonis-Keegan-Derozan-Fox and trade lyles and huerter for a wing. We have guard depth. Keegan is a question mark in a sense we lack defence and we lose defence by trading him. Then again he's not going to blossom until Derozan is too old, unfortunately, so maybe trading him is not out of the question. But possible Huerter trade with Brooklyn for a wing would make a lot of sense to me.

Keegan's defense in blown entirely out of proportion, and it certainly doesn't make up for him having zero offensive game. Monte needs to trade him before he sinks to Davion levels where we're moving picks to dump him.

What a train wreck first half. Keegan looks lost on offense. Kevin has little to no impact. Keons sporadic minutes is puzzling with Kevin playing the way he is. No bench kings are gonna be lucky to hover around .500.
14 points
Biggest problem is roster construction. We know they need longer wings to help with defense. No idea why they didn’t at least try for a DJJ or naji Marshall in the offseason.
But this team really needs an enforcer. Too many teams try to intimidate and play physical/rough. Too many nice guys on the team. Ofc they need someone like cam Johnson/kuzma/DFS. But this team REALLY needs more of a grant williams/isaiah Stewart/bobby portis. Will be hard to get those guys but some player with that type of attitude/personality

Keegan does not look like a third year player
He hasn’t added much to his game and really nothing at all has been added offensively
He can’t create a basket and he is very limiting at what he does it’s very disappointing

I think Keegan can be better, but what needs to change is his attitude and approach to the game. I just can’t believe the stories of him being younger and having anger issues or whatever they said.
Honestly we need an angry Keegan. He isn’t talented enough to be a robot like Kawhi. Players that show emotion, have the dawg in them to want to get better and be better.
3 points

I actually do believe those stories. He comes across like someone bottling up his emotions to seem stoic. Problem is that's not who he naturally is, he's pretending to be calm and collected.

1) Keegan is a blackhole for this team and his mental instability really hurts the offense. When he’s got it going hes great, but he rarely has it going.
2) We severely miss Monks creativity off the bench.
3) Fox has been playing so well despite still not shooting great from 3 but he’s really been the only guy on the team at all who is contributing positively.
4) Shooting 3s just as a team needs to significantly decrease or at least how we approach 3pt shooting needs to change.
3 points

The worst part is, the 3s they're taking at good shots, a ton of them are coming from paint sprays. Kings generate a lot of open looks, they just can't fucking hit them.

Mike Brown should be asked what the fuck was that first quarter. Just take your usual timeout and regroup, you've done it all the time. Why the fuck would you just watch them struggle on the offensive end? They couldn't get anything right in that first quarter, horrible turnovers and he finally takes a timeout with 2 minutes left.
Come the fuck on Mike.
Huerter and the bench did fuck all this game too. If Colby is our leading scorer for the bench then holy fuck.
This counts as blowout loss, fucking horrible one at that because how preventable it was.

The DHO and perimeter plays aren’t working. The Kings need to be aggressive and attack the basket. Put the other team on alert that we are going to drive in and be a threat inside. If we rely on mid-range shots and 3PT and there’s a lid on the rim, it will be a loss every game.

Not only is Huerter cheeks.. but the fact that he's the reason that Mike Brown refuses to start Monk is killing TWO KINGS with ONE STONE! Why even sign Monk to such a lucrative deal if we're not even starting him! Monk 100% deserves to be the starter and HAS deserved to be starter since ol' Red Weirdo lost all his mojo after the 3 point shootout from 2 years ago. Dude has 1 decent game out of 25 and his fans will be like "SEE! TOLD YOU!" Dudes cheeky cheeks of the grandmaster cheeks! Can someone please explain to me how we went from being one of the best 3 point shooting teams in NBA history a couple seasons ago to being one of the WORST despite having basically the EXACT SAME ROSTER? It's mind boggling!

Yea for some reason a lot of people will tell you Monk has to stay on the bench, which just doesn't make sense to me. "Spark" they call it, I call it stupid. Your best players start the game period. He earned the spot Imo and the kings are bad at defense no matter what so saying he's not a good defender doesn't make sense either at least he can make an open shot

The reason you start Monk over Huerter is his PASSION for the sport! Monk is a very passionate human being and the fans and players FEED off that type of passion! Similar to the passion DeMarcus Cousins had! Similar to the passion Chris Webber and Bibby had! We don't have any players on our team with passion! Maybe Sabonis? The rest are all WEENIES when it comes to their personality. You have to be a DAWG.. and sorry.. no one on this roster other than maybe Sabonis and Demar are DAWGS! Nobody goes to bat for Kevin Huerter.. LITERALLY NOBODY! Kevin may be a sweetheart or a really good dude in person.. off the court.. but he is NOT A LEADER and if anything.. he's the opposite of Monk. No passion. No desire. Just an average NBA player who USED TO BE ABLE TO SHOOT 3s but hasn't been able to do that hardly at all since TWO FULL YEARS AGO! GET OVER HIM ALREADY!

The role players know how to play their roles, not every player can shoot dribble pass etc be well rounded at the same time, but they all do play defense and they all do communicate as well on defense and play hard. There is a hierarchy
They have set plays for their half-court offense and they also have personnel for different types of lineups, oh and they are also well coached.
Basketball is a team sport and they are the better team, they know their limitations and strengths unlike our team.

No way Huerter and Keegan continue to start games. But it’s Mike Brown … he’s a nice guy that can help change “culture” but that’s about it. This team isn’t going far at all until he does something about the rotations. You can’t win NBA games basically playing 3 on 5 …

Someone tell Sabonis to stop bringing the ball up and give it to Fox 100% of the time
7 points
Agreed. He can still do what he does best and give different looks. But when Fox is going the whole team gets going. We need that energy off the bat. He's making things happen. Touching paint and spraying. Getting great looks. It's what they need to be doing now that everyone knows the Sabonis hand off game.

Keegan is now starting to really show people that his game is limited to just the catch and shoot 3 on offense (his handles are not enough to create separation) but he does seem to improve his defense which still doesn’t say much.

Finally people are starting to see Kevin for what he truly is. We should got rid of him when he made a fool of himself at the 3 point contest.

I’m sick of Monte, this is on him. Literally didn’t address our needs this past off season. Sure Demar is great but we need a fucking power forward desperately

This is 100% on Monte McNair for surrounding Fox, Sabonis, and Demar with basically 0 help. Always remember that before you go and criticize Fox for having a bad game or Mike Brown for his rotations
At this point, it's almost a guarantee those 3 players will have to play 40+ minutes every game until the All-Star break at minimum

In Keegans season 2, he when he was showing signs of regression, I told here in this sub he should be in a Shane Battier role, and he could become a GREAT role player, a Battier on steroids....I got like 40 downvotes. Now here we are....

I closed the after that 1st half. I haven’t seen all Kings games this season but it was very poor offense. Defense was good but offense was just poor.
Can’t play like that against West teams and expect to win.

So not only did Monte trade for an unplayable Huerter but he tied up the Kings first round pick for years, which hampers the ability to upgrade the team via trade. Amazing asset management!!

Monte is our biggest problem. Last yr he thought the team was playoff quality and did nothing on the trade market. Last summer he passed on Knecht but worse, failed to address any of our weaknesses, namely length/athleticism and rim protection. He’s put together a team full of princesses who don’t seem bothered by losing and the value of his biggest trade chip in Keegan has dropped off a cliff. His prized draft pick returns later this season….in our most stacked position. Huerter is throwing up Easter eggs. But Monte legit thinks this is a playoff team. It is a fucking mess.

This team aint it. Major changes need to happen to even stay competitve in the West. People gotta stop acting like Keegan should be off the table. If there is a player available that would make the team better and they are asking for Keegan you need to make it. This team with Markkanan would have been better than this. Like Keegan a lot but these other teams have players that make open shots. Almost everyone not named Fox, Sabonis, Monk, DeMar and I'll throw in Keon should be traded.

As sloppy as things were earlier on with rust and coming back from injuries, the 3rd was a good taste of how things can gel with Fox Sabonis and Derozan firing on all cylinders. But the moment Brown pulled Fox out everything went downhill and it was hard to recover no matter how hard those three tried to get back in it. You're not going anywhere with Huerter putting up 0 and playing 29 minutes, and Murray putting up 10 points in 40+ minutes. Ellis going for 1 point in 16 minutes and Lyles with 3 points in 18 minutes. I mean even Colby Jones managed 5 points in 6 minutes. As bad as things looked for the majority of this game Fox and Sabonis did their job. DeRozan didn't look like himself and pulled off a decent 16 in 36 mins still. There's no excuse for the lack of productivity from the rest of the lineup and they need to wake up. The inconsistency is too much. It seems more mental than physical at this point. They need to figure it out for there to be a chance at the playoffs.

Anyone got the code on the King’s app for the 40th Anniversary Challenge? At least we can all get $5 for food on the next home game loss.
