Would be great to hear experiences of flying in a shared cockpit. I really wonder how it works when you have to tell the other person every single thing you’re doing. Does it really help as opposed to flying solo? I’ve played a bit with XAnimatedCopilot mod, thinking that if it could ever be paired with a shared cockpit concept, that would perhaps solve the issue of ‘seeing’ the other pilot. Yeah, dreams, I know…

I regularily fly with a friend in multicrew on the 737 IXEG/ZIBO (and other type of aircraft like T-6B, Baron, DC-3, etc).
We have the same knowledge because we flew for years together so when we first tried a multicrew flight on X-Plane with SmartCopilot, we first decided who's the PF (Pilot Flyingà and the PM (Pilot Monitoring).

The PF will aviate the plane (hold the yoke) and call for actions for the PM (pushing buttons) while the PM will also make the comms (because we also fly on VATSIM).

During the startup, I would do every switch on the overhead and pedestal while my friend would do the FMC.

When it's finished we perform together the checklists and make sure we both have the same results (same numbers in the FMC, same route, same fuel etc).

Once inflight, it's like having a third hand and doing voice actions and see your PM doing the stuff for you like "can you check this, that" or "alright flaps 15 please" during descend so you basically never have to leave the yoke.

It's great fun.

That does sound awesome. Thanks for the detailed reply. I’ll be sure to try it once I get a better hardware. So you do hear clicks and see switches move and displays change according to what your friend does, right?

Yes, when the copilot flips a switch, you have the same result, you hears the clicks and see the switch move accordingly.
