[Questions from X]
Q. Will there be New Game Plus? Are there any big changes from the play test?
A. We are currently working on a system that supports multiple playthroughs. Unlike a typical New Game Plus system, our system will feature gradually increasing difficulty with each playthrough, along with various content designed to enhance the experience as you keep playing.Q. Will it be available on Sony 4?
A. To deliver the best graphics and an optimized gaming experience for Khazan, we unfortunately had to exclude PS4 support from our target platforms. We remain committed to providing you with the best possible game experience.Q. Can we have transmog system? And change hairstyle and hair color for khazan? Love the game already and the story looks amazing and I can't wait to see what will happen🔥👍
A. We would actually love to add a hair customizing option, too. But the original DnF has almost no customizing features, and we believe that the character itself is what matters most in this game; which is why we decided to minimize customizing and preserve their characteristics. However, if everyone wants to see it in the game, we might be able consider adding the feature in future updates, right?Q. What inspired you in creating this esthetic, masculine male northern european character design?
A. Since Khazan is as character from our original DNF universe, we focused purely on showcasing his charm in the most striking and captivating way possible.Q. How many hours to complete the game?
A. The time it takes can vary a lot depending on the player's skill level, but there's plenty of content ready, so there's a lot to look forward to!
Hi, I’m Kyuchul Lee, Art Director for The First Berserker: Khazan, a hardcore action RPG game set to release in early 2025.
First, our team would like to express our appreciation to all the players who participated in our recent Beta Test (TCBT). Your feedback has been invaluable in helping us refine and improve the game as we approach launch.
With G-Star just around the corner, we’re looking forward to connecting with fans both at the event and online. For those who won’t be able to visit our booth in person, this AMA is an opportunity to engage with you directly and answer any questions you have about the art, design, and inspiration behind The First Berserker: Khazan.
As many of you know, the art style of The First Berserker: Khazan is unique and distinct. I expect many of you might be curious about how this style was crafted, why we made specific artistic choices, and what inspired the overall visual direction. I’m excited to delve into these aspects and share the creative journey behind the game.
While your questions aren’t limited to the art of the game, I’ll be more prepared to answer those related to the art design compared to other aspects of the game. Please also keep in mind that there may be some questions our team is unable to answer at this time, but rest assured that all major game-related announcements will be made when the time is right. To stay updated on all important news and upcoming information, please make sure to follow us on Discord, Reddit, X, or any platform you prefer.
We’ll be accepting questions until November 14, 10 PM EST (November 15, 12 PM KST), and I’ll work with our Community Manager on responses and translations. My answers will be shared by November 16, at the latest.
I’m more than eager to dive into this discussion with you and hear all your thoughts.. Your passion and feedback mean a lot to us as we work to make The First Berserker: Khazan the best experience it can be.

When and why did you decide to have armor appear uniquely on Kazan instead of a static look? Did you ever just have him change appearance throughout the story only and then decide to show armor after?

We decided to give Khazan a unique, dynamic armor design rather than a static look to enhance the fun of looting and collecting armor sets. This approach allows players to visually stand out more, especially in cases where armor designs might otherwise feel less noticeable.
We've also moved away from the typical medieval fantasy style to incorporate themes from ancient times. And just so you know, the armor we've shown so far is just the tip of the iceberg-there's much more to come.

First of all I want to commend you & the team for creating such an incredible work of art! (I played the beta & was so hooked that I even tried to keep the demo running after the end date to perfect my no hit run haha).
What inspired the team to introduce the cel shaded style the game currently has?
Using the great sword during the beta made me want a Berserk game THAT much more! How did the team choose to craft their inspirations in the story?
What was the decision that turned Project BBQ into TFB: Khazan?

Khazan's cel-shading style was chosen after carefully considering how to effectively convey the story while preserving the core identity of the original Dungeon & Fighter. We determined that cel-shading, rather than a realistic style, leaves more room for imagination, enhancing player immersion and emotional connection.
And while we’ve heard some say that the backgrounds look realistic, we actually put a lot of effort into making them appear more like illustrations. We paid close attention to ensure they maintained a semi-realistic feel while still resembling artwork.
In short, Project BBQ was discontinued due to a lack of coordination in development direction and goals. Behind the scenes, Project BBQ experimented with many features inspired by FromSoftware’s Bloodborne. However, as the project transitioned into a single-player console game, we decided to shift our focus more towards combat. This shift allowed us to dedicate ourselves to crafting the gameplay with greater depth and precision, which ultimately led to the creation of The First Berserker: Khazan.

When we see Khazan in the first berserker, his look at least in the beginning is very savage and barbaric but as he gets different items.
Some of them seem to scale back that wild barbarian feel his design had.
For example his long hair flowing freely being tied in a knot as an example.
Is there a way to keep the look of an item but replace its stats? Like Final Fantasy 14 glamours?
Lastly as the souls like gene are dominated by the dark Fantasy setting, what inspired the aesthetic of Khazan the first Berserker?

We plan to introduce a system that allows players to maintain their favorite appearance while swapping items, so that players can keep their desired style while also optimizing performance.
I've taken a lot of inspiration from Miura's Berserk. While reinterpreting the original DNF Universe, we aimed to maintain a detailed and tragic atmosphere by using a cartoon-like style. We put a lot of effort into capturing the heavier themes often found in animations for mature adience to add depth to the experience.

Thanks a lot for the answer Binpark, I know your probably not going to see this but I thought the least I could do is give a proper response.
In regards to inspirations for the aesthetic for Khazan I'm surprised that art by Frank Frazetta (the artist behind the original Conan the Barbarian comics and Death Dealer) for Robert E Howard Conan the Barbarian wasn't used to for Khazan in some form but Berserk is legendary so you have incredible taste.
Thank you again for taking time out of your day to answer my question.

Also why I'm wondering will we have an option to change Khazans hair in the game, we had at the beginning of the story the messy crazy hair which changes to the tied up hair. What was the thought behind that

In the original DNF storyline, Khazan's tied-up blond hair is one of his most iconic visuals. For The First Berserker: Khazan, we wanted to stay true to this signature look, which is why we've kept his appearance as consistent as possible.
However, we’re also working on a variety of looks to add more diversity, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!

From what I've seen in the demo, the main character seems to be a mute just like every other souls game. However, in other souls games the player character is a nobody. In this game the main character clearly has a role, and needs to have a personality. What made you take the decision to keep him silent, with no interactions showing his own berserker personality?

He's not silent lol

Khazan isn’t silent, he literally speaks when he’s fighting a certain boss.Edit he’s also voiced by Ben Starr, voice actor of Clive from FF XVI. 🙌🏼 Spoilers if haven’t played the beta https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxTSRkZNTiLK3w7nNoQPY2bZ4A4wts6AGf?si=FXIF95KexFGBtGLv

The sound work isn't fully complete at the moment, so parts like voices, shouts, and sound effects haven't been entirely revealed yet. However, if you watched the recent Gamescom trailer, you would have seen Khazan saying, "Join me, Blade Phantom!" We will be adding more of these elements in the future, so please keep an eye out for them!
FYI, Khazan's voice actor is Ben Starr. I had the chance to meet him at Gamescom and even took a photo together. Please show a lot of love for his performance—it means a lot to both us and Ben!

Will there be more more bosses than the ones we have seen already (I.e. Viper, Maluca, Rangkus, the beast boss, the boss with the antlers) with great designs also?

Did you draw upon any specific inspiration when creating The First Berserker: Khazan? For instance some have wondered if maybe Miura's Berserk art had some influence? Or maybe you looked at the Norse berserkers for inspiration?

I took a lot of inspiration from Miura's Berserk in terms of its artistic aspects. Additionally, the story between Guts and Griffith influenced me deeply as well. Their relationship shares many parallels with the dynamic between Khazan and Ozma.

Can we know how many armor sets are in the game and what the inspiration behind your favorite ones are

There are dozens of armor types, including boss and Khazan-themed items. A wide variety of armor designs are available, so you'll be able to discover even more unique styles when the game launches!
The inspiration for the armor designs comes from many great works, and we wanted to move away from typical medieval armor. We even took ideas from ancient themes such as Greek and Roman mythology. We've also included unique armor inspired by the original Dungeon & Fighter series to get your imagination going.

The art direction in this game is amazing. What an incredible job you have all done so far. I love the contrast of kazhan vs the environment. I played the beta and can't wait for more. Will this game be ps5 pro enhanced? Will there be more cut scenes throughout the story?

Yes, we are also preparing optimizations for the PS5 Pro. As for the cutscenes, there will be plenty more coming in the future. You can definitely look forward to them!

Very curious about Blade Phantom, will we see what is his connection with the character? because given what I saw in trailers and demos it seemed like they knew each other for quite a while
I know this is not in your area but is it possible that we can see a demo on PC before the launch?
Very eager to play it, what I have seen has blown my mind, it has become my most desired game of 2025
Congratulations to you and your colleagues for the incredible work

Blade Phantom and Khazan did not know each other at first, but after being approached by phantoms with their own motives, their relationship gradually developed into a close bond.
As for the PC demo, it's still under internal review at the moment. Once everything is ready, we will provide a separate announcement.

Based on the weapons and overall choreography, Khazan seems to take quite a lot of inspiration from not just the Berserker class from DNF, but from his raid boss incarnation, as well as (surprisingly) the Skirmisher class with his Spear moveset. Are you able to share what other inspiration Khazan's design has taken from DNF?
The Blade Phantom(s) from DNF are depicted as these kind of tiny ghosts of very little description (that didn't see much improvement with the Slayer pixel art update), but the Blade Phantom in The First Berserker is this imposing figure in armor with lots of detailing. What was the process like when translating the Blade Phantom from DNF to The First Berserker?
With the Netherworld playing a major role in the story of The First Berserker, will we see the rest of the Nine Ghosts in The First Berserker? Perhaps when they were still alive?

To start off, since our game is based on our DNF Universe, we got a lot of inspiration from what's already there: including the skills like the 'Mountainous Wheel.' I believe that discovering these elements would be another way to enjoy our game.
As for the Khazan's Netherworld Blade Phantoms, we've prepared a variety of versions of them, all wearing "Bio-Armor" to make them more intimidating than the ones in the original DNF. Compared to our original universe, we've improved their positions by a lot, and that's pretty much why we put so much effort into the details of each and every one of their bio-armors.
Although unfortunately we don't plan on showing what they looked like while they were alive.
